Colman Domingo & Robert O'Hara to Co-Write Live-Action Film About Tiana From PRINCESS AND THE FROG

Oscar nominee Colman Domingo will join forces with Tony-nominated "Slave Play" director Robert O'Hara to co-write an original live-action feature about Princess Tiana, the protagonist of Disney's animated 2009 film "The Princess and the Frog". Their new take is said to be a spinoff of the animated feature rather than an adaptation. Directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, the original film was based on E.D. Baker's "The Frog Princess", and was the studio's last hand-drawn animated film. Anika Noni Rose voiced Tiana.

The musical fairy tale was set in 1920's New Orleans and focused on Tiana, a waitress with dreams to become a restaurant owner, who sets off on a journey to turn a frog prince back into a human, but becomes a frog as well, and the two must find a way to break the voodoo curse and become human again.

The 2009 film's score and songs were written by Oscar winner Randy Newman ("Toy Story"). The film grossed $267 million worldwide and was nominated for three Oscars: Best Animated Feature, and Newman's songs "Almost There" and "Down in New Orleans".

Domingo is also set to start work on the Nat "King" Cole biopic "Unforgettable", which he will direct, produce and star in. O'Hara, a noted playwright and theater director, has collaborated in the past with Domingo on the latter's "Wild With Happy", which was presented by The Public Theater in 2012.
