Alan Ritchson in Talks to Lead Netflix Action Film MAELSTROM

"Reacher" star Alan Ritchson is in talks to lead a new Netflix action film titled "Malestrom", which will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra ("Carry-On", "Non-Stop") from a script by Mark Bianculli ("How to Rob a Bank"). Bianculli rewrote the script from a first draft by late writer Gregory Fitzpatrick. The spec script was originally sold to Warner Bros in 1993 by producer Jeff Robinov ("Nosferatu", "Air"), former President of Warner Bros. Pictures Group from 2007 to 2013, who was an agent at the time.

The film follows a Federal Marshal guarding the fiancee of an arms dealer seeking witness protection. Events unfold over the course of one evening as a hurricane rolls in, blocking outside communication and preventing reinforcements from arriving. Together they must fight to survive the onslaught of men working for the arms dealer, as well as the escalating elements of the natural disaster raging outside.

Robinov is producing alongside Tabitha Shick. "Maelstrom" will be the first film in a lucrative deal between Netflix and Robinov's Talking Pictures production banner.

Ritchson is also set to star alongside Owen Wilson in the Angel Studios thriller "Runner". He recently completed work on the Adam Shankman-directed action comedy "The Man with the Bag", in which he stars opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger.
