GOD OF WAR Star Ryan Hurst Recast After On-Set Injury

God Of War Star Ryan Hurst Recast After On Set Injury

In a shocking development, Amazon has announced that they are going to recast the lead role of the upcoming video game adaptation "God of War", after star Ryan Hurst suffered a serious on-set injury. It has been reported that the decision was made after careful consideration by both Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.

Hurst, who was set to play Kratos, bulked up for the role, putting on 40 pounds of muscle, and worked hard for months. The show was filming in Vancouver, when Hurst tore a bicep while doing a stunt on the show. He has since undergone surgery and is now recovering. Production was immediately paused following the incident, and remains on hiatus.

Since Hurst's recovery will definitely be longer than the production shooting schedule can acommodate, the studios made the difficult decision to recast the role, which will require reshoots of scenes that had already been filmed. Production is expected to resume mid-October.

The cast also includes Callum Vinson, Max Parker, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Mandy Patinkin, Alastair Duncan, Danny Woodburn, Jeff Gulka, and Ed Skrein. "God of War" has received a two-season order at Amazon. Ronald D. Moore writes, executive produces and showruns under his Tall Ship Productions banner. Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes.

Executive producers also include Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee and Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia and Ben McGinnis co-executive produce.

Hurst can be seen in Christopher Nolan's new film "The Odyssey", which is now in theaters.
