Weekend Box-Office: SPIDER-MAN BRAND NEW DAY Scores Biggest Domestic Debut In History

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" delivered the best opening weekend ever, and "The Odyssey" is still going strong. Both films powered the biggest box office weekend in history. The only new release in theaters was Gregg Araki's erotic comedy thriller "I Want Your Sex" starring Olivia Wilde, Cooper Hoffman and Mason Gooding.

Weekend Box Office: THE ODYSSEY Victorious Again With $90 Million Second Frame

With no new major release in opening in theaters over the weekend, Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" had plenty of room to grow and no problem dominating the Top 10 with an impressively low sophomore drop. Two new wide or semi-wide releases did make it into the Top 10. The Broadway live-recording "Hadestown: The Musical", which has a five-day only theatrical run, scored an impressive weekend debut, while the action thriller "Motor City" starring Alan Ritchson failed to attract moviegoers.

Weekend Box Office: THE ODYSSEY Explodes With $123.5 Million Debut

As expected, Christopher Nolan's fantasy epic "The Odyssey" was a massive hit, breaking a series of records as it overwhelmingly dominated the weekend box office. It certainly helped that there were no new releases, since no studio dared go against Nolan, and last week's newly released Disney live-action remake "Moana" continues to sink even lower.

Weekend Box Office: MOANA Live-Action Remake Tanks With $43.1 Million Debut

Disney's latest live-action remake "Moana" stumbled in its opening weekend but still came out on top. The R-rated horror film "Evil Dead Burn" also opened over the weekend, but failed to impress. Meanwhile, two indie comedies expanded nationwide with mixed results: Olivia Wilde's indie comedy "The Invite" fared okay, but the comedy "Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass" starring Zoey Deutch failed to make the Top 10.

The new DVD and Blu-ray releases for the week of March 7, 2017 include Disney's "Moana", the Oscar-nominated biopic "Jackie" starring Natalie Portman, the war drama "Man Down" starring Shia LaBeouf, the crime drama "Trespass Against Us" starring Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson, and the horror film "Incarnate" starring Aaron Eckhart.

Fans of classic TV shows should check out the new "That 70s Show" Complete Series Flashback Edition out now on Blu-ray.

Some interesting classic films released on Blu-ray this week are Dennis Hopper's "Colors", a gritty look into the L.A. gang wars of the 1980s, the anthology film "Aria" featuring segments directed by Robert Altman, Ken Russell and Jean-Luc Godard, among others, Blake Edwards' comedy "S.O.B." and the 1959 crime drama "Compulsion" starring Orson Welles and Dean Stockwell.

Weekend Box-Office: ROGUE ONE Makes $290 Million Worldwide Debut

As predicted, "Rogue One", the new "Star Wars" film, made a huge debut over the weekend and demolished all competition, including the new Will Smith movie "Collateral Beauty", which might very well end up a contender for the title of Worst Film of the Year.

2017 Golden Globe Awards Nominations Have Been Announced

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced the 2017 Golden Globe Awards nominations. Unsurprisingly, "La La Land", "Moonlight" and "Manchester by the Sea" earned nods in the major categories, including Best Picture, but there were a few surprises, as well. One of them was Mel Gibson's true story war drama "Hacksaw Ridge", which scored three nominations for Best Picture, Director and Actor (Andrew Garfield).

Another surprise was the snubbing of Martin Scorsese's "Silence", which either didn't make the qualifying run, or it simply failed to convince voters in an already crowded year. But, the most pleasant surprise, at least in my opinion, is the inclusion of the crime drama "Hell or High Water" and Tom Ford's "Nocturnal Animals".

The animated features nominated this year include the highly acclaimed "Moana", "Zootopia" and "Kubo and the Two Strings".

In the television categories, the top TV shows include "Westworld", "This is Us", "Stranger Things", "Game of Thrones", "The Crown", "The Night Manager" and "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story".

The 74th Golden Globes will be held on Sunday, January 8th on NBC. The show will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon.

Disney's "Moana" is now in theaters, so here are some new clips, a featurette, a batch of images and posters released by the studio.

The animated adventure is set in ancient Polynesia and it tells the story of the titular Moana (voiced by Auli'i Cravalho), an impetuous Chieftain's daughter who seeks out the demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson) in the hope that he can lift a terrible curse incurred on her people.

Directed by Ron Clements, Don Hall, John Musker and Chris Williams, the film also features the voices of Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Jemaine Clement, Nicole Scherzinger and Alan Tudyk.
