Westworld 1973 New On Bluray And 4k

Product Description: In 1973, novelist-turned-filmmaker Michael Crichton made his directorial debut with Westworld, a groundbreaking fusion of science fiction and action-thriller that would prove decades ahead of its time, laying the groundwork for his later hit Jurassic Park and changing the face of sci-fi.

Welcome to Delos, the futuristic resort where, for $1,000 a day, wealthy vacationers can live out their wildest fantasies in hyper-realistic theme parks. In the Old West zone, friends Peter (Richard Benjamin) and John (James Brolin) saddle up for adventure, unaware that their dream holiday is about to turn into a nightmare. When a malfunction sends the park's android hosts off script, the Gunslinger (Yul Brynner, in his iconic black-clad role) begins a relentless pursuit, obliterating the line between simulation and survival.

Slick, suspenseful, and eerily prescient, Westworld combines a gripping man-versus-machine chase with thought-provoking questions about technology, control, and the price of playing God. Packed with atmosphere and memorable performances, this cult classic remains a landmark in genre cinema - a high-tech nightmare that never loses its bite.

emmy-awards-2017-full-list-of-nominations

The nominations for the 69th Annual Emmy Awards have been announced. While "Game of Thrones" was ineligible this year due to a late summer start for the new season, HBO still scored big with another genre series, the highly acclaimed "Westworld", which tied surprisingly with "Saturday Night Live", each claiming no less than 22 nominations. SNL is the big surprise here, and some would say not entirely a welcome one, but they have had a surge in popularity lately due to their roasting of Donald Trump.

Other shows nominated include some of the usual suspects like "House of Cards, Better Call Saul, Modern Family" and "Veep", but also newcomers like "The Crown", "Stranger Things", "The Handmaid's Tale" and "Atlanta". In the limited series category, HBO is in with "Big Little Lies" (16 nods) and "Night Of" (13 nods), FX has two anthology shows, "Fargo" (16 nods) and "Feud: Bette and Joan" (19 nods), while National Geographic pulled a surprise of their own as their new show "Genius", which could be described as Emmy-bait, scored 9 nominations.

As a fan of "The Leftovers" and its contribution to the history of television, I can say I'm pretty pissed that this awesome show was once again snubbed at the Emmys, especially as the third and final season was as close to perfection as any show can hope to be. The Emmys are no different than any other awards institution, leaning towards easy choices that are explicitly constructed to nab nominations and awards, and/or political choices, while original shows that subvert expectations and cliches are avoided like the plague. And "The Leftovers" is not the only one, but one of many important series to be snubbed by the Emmys in recent years.

The Emmy Awards will announce its winners from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles during a ceremony hosted by Stephen Colbert, which will air live on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 5 p.m. PT. on CBS.

2017-screen-actors-guild-awards-captain-fantastic-manchester-by-sea-la-la-land

The Screen Actors Guild have announced the nominations for the 2017 awards, and it's mostly the usual suspects, with a few surprises. Among the "usual suspects" I would count "Fences", "Moonlight", "La La Land" and "Manchester by the Sea".

Perhaps the biggest surprise is the inclusion of the indie dramedy "Captain Fantastic", which received nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Cast and Male Actor (Viggo Mortensen). The film received excellent reviews, but was largely ignored by pundits. Not the case anymore. It has just become a serious contender.

One other surprise is that "Hidden Figures" similarly received nods for its cast and Octavia Spencer's supporting turn. Now, we don't know much about this film, other than the fact that it looks like your typical Oscar bait biopic. Early reviews are mixed to positive and seem to support my assessment. It may be that the film is riding the political wave in these troubled and racially charged times.

Another unexpected nomination was that of Emily Blunt for her role in "Girl on the Train", a film that generated a lackluster response from critics, but performed well at the box-office. Could be that the SAG is trying to stay popular.

And the more negative surprise is that Martin Scorsese's "Silence" has been snubbed, following the shut out of the Golden Globe nominations. It seems that the period drama is about to become this awards season's biggest disappointment.

The TV shows nominated at the SAG Awards include "Stranger Things", "Orange Is the New Black", "Modern Family", "Grace & Frankie", "Game of Thrones", "Westworld" and "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story".

The winners will be announced during a ceremony that will be simultaneously broadcast live on TNT and TBS on January 29th at 8pm.

Check out the full list of 2017 SAG Awards nominees below.

2017-golden-globe-awards-nominations-la-la-land-manchester-by-sea-hacksaw-ridge

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced the 2017 Golden Globe Awards nominations. Unsurprisingly, "La La Land", "Moonlight" and "Manchester by the Sea" earned nods in the major categories, including Best Picture, but there were a few surprises, as well. One of them was Mel Gibson's true story war drama "Hacksaw Ridge", which scored three nominations for Best Picture, Director and Actor (Andrew Garfield).

Another surprise was the snubbing of Martin Scorsese's "Silence", which either didn't make the qualifying run, or it simply failed to convince voters in an already crowded year. But, the most pleasant surprise, at least in my opinion, is the inclusion of the crime drama "Hell or High Water" and Tom Ford's "Nocturnal Animals".

The animated features nominated this year include the highly acclaimed "Moana", "Zootopia" and "Kubo and the Two Strings".

In the television categories, the top TV shows include "Westworld", "This is Us", "Stranger Things", "Game of Thrones", "The Crown", "The Night Manager" and "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story".

The 74th Golden Globes will be held on Sunday, January 8th on NBC. The show will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon.

Read the complete list of nominees after the jump.
