Reid Scott ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", "Veep") is set to exit "Law & Order" during its 26th season. Scott starred as Senior Detective Vincent Riley in the last three seasons. He will be replaced by James Badge Dale ("13 Hours", "The Pacific"), who will join the cast as a new Senior Detective.
It has been reported that Scott's departure was his decision, related to the strain caused by the cross-country commute and being away from his family for nine months of the year while filming "Law & Order" in New York. Scott's character, Detective Riley, will get a proper ending, as the actor is back on the set in New York, filming the episodes required to wrap the character's arc before Dale steps in.
Returning cast members include Tony Goldwyn, Hugh Dancy, Maura Tierney, David Ajala and Odelya Halevi. "Law & Order" Season 26 premieres on October 8, 2026 at 10 PM on NBC.
Dale can also be seen opposite Jessica Chastain in the thriller series "The Savant", whenever Apple TV decides to release it, as the show is currently on hold without a definitive release date. He's also set to star in the psychological thriller "The Guide", and can also be seen in Jeremy Saulnier's A24 thriller "October".
