CLUELESS Sequel Series Starring Alicia Silverstone Ordered at Paramount+

Paramount+ has greenlit a "Clueless" sequel series with Alicia Silverstone reprising the role of Cher Horowitz. Originally set up for development at Peacock in early 2025, it eventually received a six-episode order at Paramount+ and will be produced by Paramount-owned CBS Studios. Production is expected to begin in Los Angeles in 2027, and has submitted paperwork with the California Film Commission to receive state tax subsidies.

Here is the official synopsis: "Beloved Beverly Hills icon Cher Horowitz (Silverstone) has figured out a lot: She's successful in business and has mastered motherhood—that is, until her daughter's high school years, and Cher finds that parenting a teenager makes her feel 'clueless' all over again".

The new series is written and executive produced by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss. Schwartz and Savage also produce via Fake Empire banner, alongside Silverstone, Amy Heckerling, the film's writer and director, and Robert Lawrence, the film's producer.

Loosely based on Jane Austen's "Emma", the original "Clueless" film was released in 1995, and it grossed $56.6 million in the US, and $88 million worldwide against a budget of $12 million. The cast also included Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Dan Hedaya, Jeremy Sisto, Breckin Meyer and Wallace Shawn. The film was also recently added to the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

Thirty-one years ago, Alicia Silverstone's Cher Horowitz captivated audiences with her signature chic style, sharp wit and relentless optimism, helping make 'Clueless' a box office hit and instant pop culture classic. We're especially proud to be filming this much-anticipated series in Los Angeles, honoring its starring role in the original film while investing in the city’s exceptional talent and crews".

This is in fact not the first small-screen "Clueless" project. A TV adaptation of the 1995 film aired on ABC and then UPN from 1996 until 1999 for three seasons, with Rachel Blanchard playing Cher.
