Gerard Butler has signed on to lead the action thriller "The Nest" from Thunder Road, the company that has produced films like "John Wick", "The Town" and "Sicario". Black Bear is launching sales at the upcoming Cannes market. The film was written by Aaron Benjamin, but as yet, no director has been attached to helm the movie.
Butler is will star as a sniper who receives an anonymous threat over the radio and must race against a ticking clock in order to save his family and 70,000 fans at the biggest sporting event on the globe – the World Cup. The script is based on real-life operatives. The film is expected to begin production in early 2027.
Producers include Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee at Thunder Road, Gerard Butler and Alan Siegel for G-BASE ("Den of Thieves"), and Steve Klinsky for Untravelled Worlds ("Manhattan Night"). Jon Hersh and Mahal Sourgose will executive produce.
Benjamin is a screenwriter and short story author. His other projects include the upcoming action thriller "The Zone" directed by stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood and starring Paula Patton. His spec script "She Seems Nice" is in development with Bread & Circuses Entertainment, which he adapted from his own short story. He previously wrote "Maverick", a biopic about John McCain's time as a POW.
