R-Rated BLOODBORNE Video Game Adaptation In the Works At Sony

R Rated Bloodborne Video Game Adaptation In The Works At Sony

The PlayStation video game "Bloodborne" is being adapted for the big screen by Sony Pictures. The studio is developing an R-rated movie that will embrace the carnage that made the game so popular. During the studio's CinemaCon presentation, Sanford Panitch, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, made a promise that the long-rumored film will be "very true" to the gory spirit of the video game,

"Bloodborne" was developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game follows a Hunter through the decrepit Gothic, Victorian-era inspired city of Yharnam, whose inhabitants are afflicted with a blood-borne disease which transforms the residents into horrific beasts. Attempting to find the source of the plague, the player's character unravels the city's mysteries while fighting beasts and cosmic beings.

The film is co-produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation and prominent Irish YouTuber and content creator Seán McLoughlin, better known by his pseudonym JackSepticEye. Lyrical Media, parent company of Lyrical Animation, is co-financing "Bloodborne" with Sony Pictures.

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are also collaborating on the "Helldivers" video game adaptation directed by Justin Lin ("Fast & Furious" franchise), and starring Jason Momoa. The studio also recently completed filming the big screen adaptation of Nintendo's "The Legend of Zelda" directed by Wes Ball ("The Maze Runner") and produced by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto. The Zelda movie stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda.
