"Dexter: Original Sin" is a crime drama mystery series created by Clyde Phillips that serves as a prequel to the iconic series "Dexter". The cast includes Patrick Gibson, Christian Slater, Molly Brown, Christina Milian, Joe Pantoliano, James Martinez, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, Patrick Dempsey and the voice of Michael C. Hall. Sarah Michelle Gellar will appear as a guest star. The show premiered on December 13, 2024 on Paramount+ with Showtime.

Michael C. Hall to Return for DEXTER Sequel Series RESURRECTION and Prequel ORIGINAL SIN

Michael C. Hall is set to reprise the iconic role of Dexter Morgan for the sequel series titled "Dexter: Resurrection", and provide narration for the prequel series "Dexter: Original Sin".

Set in present day, "Resurrection" will follow-up the events in "New Blood". It is set to premiere in Summer 2025. The big question is how can Dexter still be around for the sequel, when the character was killed off in the "New Blood" finale, and even creator and showrunner Clyde Phillips confirmed that Dexter is dead.

After announcing his return to the franchise at the San Diego Comic-Con, Michael C. Hall offere a cryptic answer to questions about the character's survival in the finale which saw the serial killer bleeding out in the freezing cold: "I don’t know what I am authorized to say other than, it's really cold out there.". He also added that "Ressurection" will pick up "right where we left off". And, it could "potentially" be a multiple seasons show.

"Dexter: Original Sin" will premiere in December 2024, and it stars Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter and Christian Slater as his father, Harry Morgan. The cast also includes Molly Brown, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Patrick Dempsey, Joe Pantoliano and Christina Milian.

The decision to make more shows with the character is no doubt motivated by the fact that the original "Dexter" series is enjoying quite a resurgence lately, rising on the Neilsen charts and landing in the No. 2 spot for the week of June 24 with 1.48 billion viewing minutes across all platforms. Previous seasons of both shows are available for subscribers on Paramount+ with the Paramount+ with Showtime plan.

DEXTER Prequel Series Casts Patrick Gibson, Christian Slater and Molly Brown

A "Dexter" prequel series is being developed for Paramount+ with Showtime, and it has been announced that Patrick Gibson ("Tolkien", "The OA"), Christian Slater ("Mr. Robot") and Molly Brown ("Senior Year", "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel") have signed on to star as the leads in the show.

Titled "Dexter: Original Sin", the series is set in 1991, 15 years before the events of "Dexter", and it follows Dexter (Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcements' radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. Brown will play Debra Morgan, Dexter's sister.

Clyde Phillips, the original showrunner and executive producer on "Dexter" returns in that role for "Original Sin". Michael C. Hall is also an executive producer on the series, as is Scott Reynolds, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. Michael Lehmann, the director of "Heathers" will serve as director and executive producer.

Robert Lloyd Lewis is a producer on the series. Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios produce. Gary Levine and Urooj Sharif will oversee for Showtime Studios, with production supervised by Tara Power. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside of Paramount+ markets.
