This week in theaters we have two new wide releases. The first is the animated film "The Addams Family", a new adaptation of the comics created by American cartoonist Charles Addams. The film features the voices of Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloƫ Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Snoop Dogg, Bette Midler and more. Its box-office prospects are quite solid, after grossing $1.25 million from previews, and the film is on track to deliver a $30 million debut this weekend from 4,007 theaters.
The second new release is the sci-fi thriller "Gemini Man" from acclaimed filmmaker Ang Lee ("Life of Pi", "Brokeback Mountain"). The Will Smith-starrer is also off to a good start, with $1.6 million from Thursday previews, and an estimated $20+ million debut from 3,642 theaters.
Both "The Addams Family" and "Gemini Man" have received a "B+" grade from CinemaScore's opening night polls.
In limited release it might be worth checking out the R-rated comedy "Jexi" from "The Hangover" scribes and "Bad Moms" filmmakers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, and the Netflix flick "El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie", in which Aaron Paul reprises the role of Jesse Pinkman from Vince Gilligan's hit AMC series "Breaking Bad".
