Weekend Box-Office: RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET Holds at #1

Disney's "Ralph Breaks the Internet" is still dominating the box-office charts as the post-Thanksgiving weekend proved to be light in terms of competition. The only new wide release, the horror film "The Possession of Hannah Grace" performed well in its opening weekend, but was no match for the Top 5 movies.

Weekend Box-Office: RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET And Scores Second Largest Thanksgiving Opening Ever

The box-office estimates have arrived and it looks like this year's Thanksgiving weekend did not disappoint. Disney's "Ralph Breaks the Internet" and MGM's "Creed II" lead the pack with impressive numbers, while most releases from previous weeks continued to perform well. However, Summit's much maligned "Robin Hood" broke down completely in its opening weekend.

Weekend Box-Office: FANTASTIC BEASTS Sequel Scores $253M Global Debut

As expected, Warner Bros' "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" topped the weekend box-office charts with impressive numbers, even though it wasn't quite the fantastic debut pundits were expecting. But "Beasts" isn't the only film that fell below expectations this weekend. Fellow new releases "Instant Family" and "Widows"  also failed to impress.

In Theaters: FANTASTIC BEASTS - THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD, WIDOWS, A PRIVATE WAR and INSTANT FAMILY

The Harry Potter spinoff sequel "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" is now in theaters and while critics were divided about this one, the film will certainly dominate the box-office charts this weekend.

This weekend will be a busy one as three more new wide releases are ready to get a slice of the pre-Thanksgiving earnings. The films are Steve McQueen's crime drama "Widows" starring Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki and Cynthia Erivo, the biobic "A Private War" starring Rosamaund Pike, and the dramedy "Instant Family" starring Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne.

"Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" is a sequel to the 2015 fantasy film "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" based on J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" Wizarding World universe. Franchise veteran David Yates returns to direct the new installment from a script written by Rowling herself.

The new film follows the adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law), as they attempt to take down evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp replacing the first film's Colin Farrell), who has escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. The cast also includes Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Zoe Kravitz, Claudia Kim, Callum Turner, Carmen Ejogo and Poppy Corby-Tuech.

"Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" opened in theaters worldwide on November 16, 2018 and received mostly mixed reviews from critics. Despite a lackluster critical reception, the film is still primed to explode at the weekend box-office and has already delivered an impressive $9.1 million in Thursday night preview grosses from 3,300 theaters.

Among the new trailers released online we have the official teaser for "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald", the sequel to J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter spinoff starring Eddie Redmayne as magizoologist Newt Scamander.

We also have trailers for the ensemble drama "Life Itself" from the creator of NBC's "This Is Us", the drug-addiction drama "6 Balloons starring Dave Franco and Abbi Jacobson, and the psychedelic western "Paradox" starring Neil Young. The last two will be released via Netflix.

And finally, Focus Features has released the official trailer for the documentary "Pope Francis - A Man of His Word", from award-winning filmmaker Wim Wenders ("The Salt of the Earth", "Pina", "Wings of Desire").
