Words And Music 1948 New On Bluray

Product Description: Mickey Rooney, Tom Drake, Betty Garrett, Janet Leigh, and a host of top musical performers headline M-G-M producer Arthur Freed's extravagant biographical tribute to the prolific songwriting duo of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. In the early 1920s, the diminutive Hart (Rooney) teams up with Rodgers (Drake) to launch a successful 24-year music career, penning nearly 500 songs with him until Hart's death in 1943 at the age of 47. June Allyson, Perry Como, Ann Sothern, Mel Torme, Cyd Charisse, Judy Garland, and Lena Horne are just some of the singing sensations featured. This is the last movie in which Garland and Rooney appeared together. It also boasts the first full-length modern ballet piece in a Hollywood movie: Choreographed and danced by Gene Kelly, with Vera-Ellen as his partner, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue provides the show-stopping seven-minute finale to the film. Among the hit songs performed are Blue Moon, Thou Swell Manhattan, Johnny One Note, I Wish I Were in Love Again, Where or When, and The Lady Is a Tramp.

Challenged to a duel by each, D'Artagnan earns their respect with his courage, if not by his fighting prowess. Chris Evans in Talks to Play Gene Kelly in Film Produced by John Logan
Marvel Cinematic Universe alum Chris Evans is in talks to star as legendary actor Gene Kelly in an upcoming film based on an original idea by Evans. The film will be produced by "Gladiator" and "Skyfall" scribe John Logan.

The film will focus on a 12-year-old boy who works on the MGM Lot in 1952 and begins to create an imagined friendship with the legendary movie star Kelly while working on his newest film. A studio is not yet attached to the project.

Evans will produce the film alongside Logan, who is also writing the script. Rian Johnson is set to produce alongside Ram Bergman and Mark Kassen. Evans and Johnson last worked together on "Knives Out". A sequel for that movie is currently in post-production.

The champion ball club The Wolves' success depends on the powerhouse double play combination of O'Brien to Ryan to Goldberg. Trouble is O'Brien (Kelly--An American in Paris, Brigadoon) and Ryan (Academy Award winner Sinatra--From Here to Eternity, Pal Joey) would rather be pursuing their vaudeville career than playing baseball . . . that is until the team gets a new owner, beautiful K.C. Higgins (Williams--Dangerous When Wet). And when a professional gambler who has bet heavily against The Wolves tries every dirty trick he knows to influence the outcome of the big game, it's the baseball players against the gangsters for a wild, hysterical, musical nine innings.

the-pirate-1948-new-on-bluray

Product Description: Newly remastered from the original Technicolor® negatives! A treasure trove of fun awaits when a Caribbean beauty (Judy Garland) with a mad crush on a legendary pirate meets a vagabond actor (Gene Kelly) who poses as the scoundrel. Vincente Minnelli directs, bringing his uncanny skill with color and design to this joyous romp set to Cole Porter tunes. Mixing tremulous girlishness with hellcat hilarity, Garland was never better as a comedienne. Parodying the rakish style of Fairbanks and Barrymore, Kelly duels, dupes and dances with buccaneer bravado. All by itself, his Be a Clown (danced with the Nicholas Brothers and reprised with Garland) is enough to convince all to be a fan of The Pirate.

thats-entertainment-complete-collection-new-on-bluray

Product Description: In an era when we have an unprecedented number of movies and other diversions at our fingertips, is there still a need for a clip show like That's Entertainment? Certainly, because the film series, beginning in 1974, was an unabashed peddler of glorious nostalgia, not only collecting many of the most memorable moments in the magical history of the MGM musical--and therefore in the history of film--but bringing in many of the original stars to introduce them decades later. And another few decades after the series was released, the nostalgia is that much greater since many of those stars are now gone. In addition, the sheer number and variety of clips (though they're often too short) would be hard to match in any collection or in the span of an evening's viewing. Where else could you enjoy Gene Kelly singin' in the rain and also James Stewart crooning "Easy to Love"? Or follow fun trends like the Mickey Rooney-Judy Garland "let's put on a show" pictures, of which Rooney says "only our names seemed to change"? Following the surprising box-office success of the initial film, Part 2 was released in 1976 and it still had plenty of famous and obscure clips (remember Bobby Van?), and even a nod to the nonmusical films of the era such as the Hepburn-Tracy pictures. It topped everything off with the irresistible pairing of hosts Kelly and Fred Astaire, who share a dance--for only the second time in their careers--at the ages of 64 and 77, respectively (and a more graceful 77-year-old you never will see!). The third film wasn't made until in 1994 (host Kelly is strikingly older), but it offered more of the usual fare plus a variety of cut numbers by such stars as Judy Garland, Lena Horne, and Debbie Reynolds. A half-century later, Hollywood's valentine to the movie musical was still shining strong.
