Jamie Lee Curtis to Star in Universal's MURDER, SHE WROTE Movie Adaptation

Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis is set to star in Universal's upcoming big screen adaptation of the classic TV series "Murder, She Wrote". The film will be directed by Jason Moore ("Pitch Perfect") from a script by Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo ("Dumb Money", "Orange is the New Black")

The original series was created for CBS by Peter S. Fischer, Richard Levinson & William Link, and it starred Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher, a retired schoolteacher turned mystery writer who uses her intellect, charm, and persistence to solve real-life murders. The series ran between 1984 and 1996, becoming one of the most successful and longest-running shows in TV history.

"Murder, She Wrote" was nominated for 41 Emmys, and Lansbury was nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama series for every season, but unfortunately never won. Between 1997 and 2003, Lansbury reprised the role of Jessica Fletcher in four two-hour TV movies: "South by Southwest" (1997), "A Story to Die For" (2000), "The Last Free Man" (2001), and "The Celtic Riddle" (2003).

The film will be produced by Amy Pascal with Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Aditya Sood through Lord Miller's first-look deal with Universal Pictures. SVP Development Lexi Barta and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project for the studio.

Moore will also direct the pilot and serve as an executive producer on "Elle", Amazon's "Legally Blonde" prequel TV series. In April, he will direct the revival of the Tony-winning "Avenue Q" in London's West End. Moore is also set to direct "Guncle", based on the acclaimed bestseller by Steven Rowley, and an an adaptation of Emma Straub's novel "This Time Tomorrow".
