"Overlord" is a World War II horror film directed by
Julius Avery (
"Son of a Gun") from a script by
Billy Ray (
"Captain Phillips") and
Mark L. Smith (
"The Revenant"), and produced by
J.J. Abrams (
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens").
The film is set on the eve of D-Day and it follows a team of American paratroopers who are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a dangerous mission. However, they uncover a much more sinister threat in a mysterious Nazi lab hidden beneath a church. The cast features
Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, Mathilde Ollivier, John Magaro, Pilou Asbaek, Iain de Caestecker, Dominic Applewhite and
Bokeem Woodbine.
"Overlord" opened in theaters on November 9, 2018 and received mostly positive reviews from critics. The film opened with $10 million at the box-office domestically and $19 million worldwide, against a budget of $38 million.
