"Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle" is an adaptation based on
Rudyard Kipling's
"All The Mowgli Stories", which includes
"The Jungle Book" and
"The Second Jungle Book". The film is directed by
Andy Serkis (
"The Lord of the Rings" and the
"Planet of the Apes" reboot trilogies) and adapted by
Callie Kloves.
The story follows Mowgli (
Rohan Chand), a human child raised by wolves who never truly belonged in either the wilds of the jungle or the civilized world of man, as he accepts his destiny and becomes a legend. The cast also features
Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andy Serkis, Naomie Harris, Eddie Marsan, Jack Reynor, Matthew Rhys, Tom Hollander, Cate Blanchett, Peter Mullan and
Freida Pinto.
The film was originally titled
"Jungle Book: Origins" and was set for release in 2018, after several delays, by Warner Bros. In the end, the studio sold the worldwide distribution rights to Netflix. The streaming network changed the title to
"Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle" and scheduled it for a limited release in theaters on November 29, 2018 and for streaming on December 7th. The film received mostly mixed reviews from critics.
