New on DVD and Blu-ray: April 18, 2017

The new DVD and Blu-ray releases for the week of April 18th, 2017 include M. Night Shyamalan's new horror film "Split", the McDonalds biopic "The Founder", the crime thriller "Sleepless" starring Jamie Foxx, and the comic book animated adaptation "Teen Titans: The Judas Contract".

Two shows also have new seasons out now on home video: the British drama "Home Fires" (Season 2) and the sci-fi series "Killjoys" (Season 2).

Among the classic films released this week we have the 4-Disc Limited Edition Blu-ray/DVD combo for "Donnie Darko", Criterion Collection editions for "Buena Vista Social Club" and "Woman of the Year", Studio Ghibli's "Ocean Waves" for the first time on DVD and Blu-ray, the 25th anniversary edition of "A League of Their Own", and the Collector's Edition of "Tales From the Hood".

In Theaters: PATERSON, 20TH CENTURY WOMEN, OCEAN WAVES, DR. FEELGOOD: DEALER OR HEALER?

There are no new wide releases this week, but a few interesting films are opening in select theaters. The most notable are Jim Jarmusch's new dramedy "Paterson" starring Adam Driver and "20th Century Women" starring Annette Bening in what many are calling a career-best performance. Also, Studio Ghibli is finally releasing a remastered version of their 1993 animated feature "Ocean Waves" in North American theaters. And for documentary fans, we have "Dr. Feelgood: Dealer or Healer", a chronicle of the controversial trial of Dr. William Hurwitz and a thoughtful look into the issue of painkiller abuse.

Ghibli's OCEAN WAVES Remastered Trailer, Images and Poster

Ghibli's anime "Ocean Waves" ("Umi ga kikoeru") has been released for the first time ever in North American theaters. The 1993 television special never received a home video release, either, but now that Walt Disney has included it in its international distribution deal, it will probably get a DVD release, once it finishes its select theater run, which is scheduled between December 28, 2016 and March 10, 2017.

Directed by Tomomi Mochizuki, the film features the voices of Nobuo Tobita, Toshihiko Seki, Yoko Sakamoto, Kae Araki and Yuri Amano.
