"Pet Sematary: Bloodlines" is a horror film directed by Lindsey Anderson Beer in her directorial debut from a script co-written by Beer and Jeff Buhler. The film is a prequel to 2019's "Pet Sematary" based on Stephen King's 1983 novel. The cast includes Jackson White, Forrest Goodluck, Jack Mulhern, Henry Thomas, Natalie Alyn Lind, Isabella Star LaBlanc, Samantha Mathis, Pam Grier and David Duchovny. The film premiered on October 6, 2023 on Paramount+.

The Stand

The world abruptly ends when a deadly virus accidentally escapes from a government sponsored biological warfare laboratory. Good-hearted people follow the voice of an ancient black woman and head for Boulder, Colorado. Bad people follow the enigmatic Walkin' Dude to Las Vegas. The Dead Zone (1983)

Box-Office: SHAZAM! Tops Second Weekend as HELLBOY Disappoints

Warner Bros' superhero flick "Shazam!" held the spot for its second weekend against four new wide releases, most of which underperformed. The fantasy comedy "Little" and the teen romance "After" performed well at the box-office, while "Missing Link" and "Hellboy" missed the mark.

The supernatural horror film "Pet Sematary" is a new adaptation of Stephen King's 1983 novel of the same name, the second after the 1989 cult classic. The film is directed by Kevin Kölsch & Dennis Widmyer ("Starry Eyes") from a script by Jeff Buhler ("The Midnight Meat Train", "The Prodigy").

The film follows a family that relocates from Boston to rural Maine with their two young children, where they soon discover a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near their new home, and all hell breaks loose. The cast features Jason Clarke, John Lithgow, Amy Seimetz, Jete Laurence, Hugo Lavoie and Lucas Lavoie.

"Pet Sematary" premiered at South by Southwest and opened in theaters on April 5, 2019. It received mostly mixed reviews from critics and left moviegoers divided regarding the changes made to King's original story. It opened in second place at the box-office with $25 million.

Weekend Box-Office: SHAZAM! Works Its Magic With $53M Debut

No surprises over the weekend as the DC Comics movie "Shazam!" secured the top spot and performed slightly better than expected. Meanwhile, the Stephen King adaptation "Pet Sematary" fell a bit behind projections, but still managed a very good debut. The civil rights drama "The Best of Enemies", however, failed to make the Top 5.

In Theaters: SHAZAM!, PET SEMATARY, THE BEST OF ENEMIES and THE WIND

The box-office is gearing up for yet another highly competitive weekend, with two more high profile flicks set to battle for the top spot. The first is the new DC Comics movie "Shazam!", which has earned stellar reviews from critics and a very positive response from moviegoers. The seventh DC Extended Universe installment has already grossed $5.9 million from Thursday night previews and is expected to finish the weekend with around $50 million from 4,217 theaters.

The second big release is the Stephen King adaptation "Pet Sematary". While the film has received a generally mixed reception from both critics and moviegoers, its box-office prospects are still decent, with $2.3 million from Thursday previews and expectations for a $30 million opening weekend from 3,585 theaters.

The third wide release this week is the civil rights drama "The Best of Enemies" starring Sam Rockwell and Taraji P. Henson. The film is expected to score around $5 million from 1,705 theaters.

In limited release it might be worth checking out the supernatural western horror film "The Wind" starring Caitlin Gerard.

Pet Sematary Remake

I remember hearing news of this remake about 7-8 years ago. The first information about it spoke of the "Face/Off" writing team handling the script. I was honestly excited about the news, but nothing ever happened. Now it seems Paramount Pictures has moved forward with a "Pet Sematary" remake, which I think is funny because I thought the original was so bad, that I prefer not to acknowledge its existence. Further more, the script will be penned by "1408" screenwriter Matthew Greenberg, which is, I think, good news for Stephen King fans. I don't normally find remake news terribly exciting, but in this case I can make an exception, because I love King's novel and I think it deserves a better adaptation than the 1989 crapfest, so Hollywood, you have one more chance. Don't screw it up !
