Box-Office: THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA Tops Easter Weekend

The new Conjurverse installment "The Curse of La Llorona" secured the top spot at the box-office with ease. Meanwhile, the other Easter weekend newcomers fell short of expectations, while old releases enjoyed a small holiday boost.

LITTLE (2019) - Trailers, TV Spots, Clips, Featurettes, Images and Poster

"Little" is a fantasy comedy co-written and directed by Tina Gordon ("Peeples"). The film follows an overbearing boss (Regina Hall) who is transformed into her younger self (Marsai Martin) at a point in her life when the pressures of adulthood become too much for her. Issa Rae, Justin Hartley, Tone Bell and Rachel Dratch co-star.

"Little" opened in theaters on April 12, 2019 and received mostly mixed reviews from critics.

Box-Office: SHAZAM! Tops Second Weekend as HELLBOY Disappoints

Warner Bros' superhero flick "Shazam!" held the spot for its second weekend against four new wide releases, most of which underperformed. The fantasy comedy "Little" and the teen romance "After" performed well at the box-office, while "Missing Link" and "Hellboy" missed the mark.

In Theaters: HELLBOY, MISSING LINK, AFTER and LITTLE

This weekend we get no less than 4 new wide releases. The first is the "Hellboy" reboot starring David Harbour, which is suffering a merciless beating from critics, and its Rotten Tomatoes rating is currently at a catastrophic 13%. Audience scores are also pretty low (66 on Rotten Tomatoes and a 4.0 on Metacritic) and CinemaScore reports a terrible "C" grade. The film brought in $1.38 million from Thursday previews, and if things go well, the R-rated superhero flick will finish the weekend with around $16 million from 3,303 theaters.

The second major release is Laika's latest animated feature "Missing Link" which has been getting solid reviews from critics, but a mixed reception from moviegoers ("B+" grade from CinemaScore's polls). The film is expected to open with around $10 million from 3,413 theaters, which would be Laika's lowest debut ever.

Also out now in theaters is the teenage romance "After" starring Josephine Langford ("Wish Upon") and Hero Fiennes Tiffin (Joseph and Ralph Fiennes's 21-year-old nephew), which is based on Anna Todd's best-selling novel. Pundits predict a near-bottom Top 10 debut at the box-office, with $4 million from 2,138 theaters. The film has received a generally negative reception from critics, but moviegoers were more forgiving as indicated by CinemaScore's "B" grade.

And the last new wide release is the "Big"-in-reverse fantasy comedy "Little" starring Regina Hall, Issa Rae and Marsai Martin. The film has better box-office prospects and is expected to debut with around $16 million from 2,667 theaters, even though the critical and audience reception was mostly mixed. CinemaScore reports a "B+" grade.

• The post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller "IO" starring Margaret Qualley and Anthony Mackie. The film is directed by French-born filmmaker Jonathan Helpert ("House of Time").
• The comedy "Little" starring Issa Rae ("Insecure"). The film is directed by Tina Gordon ("Drumline" writer) and produced by Will Packer ("Girls Trip").
• The supernatural drama "Anthem of a Teenage Prophet" starring Cameron Monaghan and Peyton List. The film is based on Joanne Proulx's award-winning young adult novel and it marks the feature directorial debut of commercial director Robin Hays.
• Netflix's darkly comic series "Russian Doll" co-created by and starring Natasha Lyonne.
• The documentary "Lorena" directed by Joshya Rofe and executive produced by Jordan Peele ("Get Out"), that focuses on the infamous John and Lorena Bobbitt case.
• The action film "The Bouncer" starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. The film is directed by French helmer Julien Leclercq ("The Assault").
