the-hobbit-the-battle-of-the-five-armies-honest-trailers-how-it-should-have-ended

Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" trilogy has received plenty of negative comments for being an overlong and unnecessary addition to the Middle Earth franchise. I personally loved the trilogy, as they're still some of the best fantasy adventure films Hollywood can offer these days, but I must agree that stretching a 300-page book over three movies, each with considerable running times, is overall a questionable decision for a cinematic project. Some cinematic adaptations are accused of not being faithful enough to the source material, but Jackson can't be accused of it since he even had to add material outside the book (Tolkien's Appendecies) to pad out the running time. I think two movies would have been sufficient for this story, as was originally planned when Guillermo del Toro was on board to direct.

Honest Trailers and How it Should Have Ended have each delivered their own funny takes on the last movie in the franchise, "The Battle of the Five Armies". Regardless of how you feel about Jackson's movie, the videos are still quite funny. Enjoy !

Box office report The Woman in Black 2 The Hobbit

"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" is proving to be unstoppable at the box-office. The final chapter in the Middle-Earth prequel trilogy held on at the top with a $21.9 million weekend, which brings its domestic total to $220.7 million. "Into the Woods" and Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken" also proved remarkably resilient with $19 million and $18 million, respectively.

This week's only wide release, the horror sequel "The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death" managed a fourth place opening with $15 million, which might not seem all that great but is in fact pretty good given the film's low budget and expectations.

box-office-hobbit-battle-five-armies-unbroken-into-the-woods

The Christmas weekend proved to be very merry indeed for three movies. The leader of the pack is still "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" for a second consecutive weekend with $41 million domestically in the last three days and a grand worldwide total of $573 million. In second place we have Angelina Jolie's World War II true story drama "Unbroken" which grossed $47 million in 4 days and close behind at #3 is the fantasy musical "Into the Woods" with $46 million in the same timeframe, a very good start for both films in the upcoming awards season.

The week's other wide release, the remake "The Gambler" starring Mark Wahlberg made a less impressive debut. The film opened in seventh place with $9.3 million over the weekend and $14 million in 4 days. Still, it's not a total disaster for the $25 million movie, especially in the face of such tough competition.

"The Imitation Game" managed to climb into the top 10 after expanding in more theaters and grossed $7.9 million in the last three days. The film will expand further by January 9th.

Tim Burton's "Big Eyes" did not manage to take advantage of the holidays. The biopic scored $3 million from 1,307 theaters and totalled $4.4 million since its release on Christmas day.

New Wide Releases: "Unbroken", "Into the Woods", "The Gambler", "Big Eyes".

weekend-box-office-hobbit-battle-five-armies-night-at-the-museum-secret-of-the-tomb-annie

It's no surprise that Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" dominates the weekend box-office. Even though the competition was a lot tougher than it was for previous installments, the epic final chapter in the Middle-Earth prequel trilogy scored $56 million over the weekend and $90.6 million in the five days since its release. The film also grossed $265 million overseas which is pretty awesome. However, as far as weekends go, "The Battle of the Five Armies" made less money than "An Unexpected Journey" which grossed $84 million in its first weekend, and "The Desolation of Smaug" which opened with $73 million, both within a 3-day timeframe. The final chapter in the trilogy will probably gross less than the previous films, but not by very much. It's still going to make a ton of money.

The sequel "Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb" took second place with a modest $17 million, a slow opening for the $127 million production and the weakest of the series. "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" registered a $54 million debut in 2009 while the first film in the franchise scored a $30 million opening weekend in 2006.

After a pretty rotten week which included North-Korean cyber-attacks, Sony managed a mild success with its "Annie" remake which opened third with $16 million. While these may not be huge numbers, the family film could pick up more business during the holiday week.

Meanwhile, last week's "Exodus: Gods and Kings" took a steep dive, dropping 66% from first place to fourth and only managed $8 million this weekend. Ridley Scott's epic is shaping up to be one of 2014's flops with just $100 million worldwide in 10 days versus a $140 million budget that would require a Biblical miracle to recouperate.

The Hobbit The Battle of The Five Armies Movie Clips

Today we have 5 new clips and 16 images from "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies". Directed and co-written by Peter Jackson, this is the final chapter in the somewhat controversial The Hobbit trilogy. This third installment is currently receiving some mixed reviews (61% on Rottentomatoes.com), but I guess fans who have so far enjoyed the first two films will love this one as well. The awesome cast features Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Ian McKellen, Luke Evans, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, John Bell, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Graham McTavish, Michael Mizrahi, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Lee Pace, Mikael Persbrandt, Ken Stott and Aidan Turner.

A preview of the closing credits song for "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" has been released online. The song, titled "The Last Goodbye", is co-written and sung by Billy Boyd who played Pippin in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. It's a good song, but I'm not entirely thrilled about it. It's similar in tone and style to "Into the West", the Oscar winning song from "The Return of the King", but the musical theme doesn't feel as powerful. Still, it's probably the best song from all "The Hobbit" moves.

Peter Jackson's final chapter in The Hobbit trilogy stars Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Ian McKellen, Luke Evans, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, John Bell, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Graham McTavish, Michael Mizrahi, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Lee Pace, Mikael Persbrandt, Ken Stott and Aidan Turner.

A new poster has been released for Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies". It's one of those special banner posters that we've seen for "The Desolation of Smaug" and "An Unexpected Journey". This one offers a panoramic view of the film's epic scope, a great tease for what could be the best installment of this prequel trilogy. The cast features Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Ian McKellen, Luke Evans, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, John Bell, Jed Brophy, Adam Brown, John Callen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Mark Hadlow, Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter, William Kircher, Graham McTavish, Michael Mizrahi, James Nesbitt, Dean O’Gorman, Lee Pace, Mikael Persbrandt, Ken Stott and Aidan Turner.
