Weekend Box-Office: FREE GUY Holds Top Spot Against Four New Wide Releases

The animated family adventure film "PAW Patrol: The Movie", the action flick "The Protege", the horror film "The Night House", and the sci-fi thriller "Reminiscence" were all released over the weekend, but "Free Guy" is still the #1 movie. The competition wasn't as fierce as it looked, however. Out of the four movies, only "Paw Patrol" managed to score decent numbers.

"The Protégé" is an action thriller directed by Martin Campbell ("Casino Royale") from a script by Richard Wenk ("The Equalizer"). The film stars Maggie Q, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Patrick Malahide, David Rintoul, Ori Pfeffer, Ray Fearon, Caroline Loncq, and Robert Patrick. Lionsgate released the film in theaters on August 20, 2021.

• The comic book movie sequel "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" starring Tom Hardy. The new installment is directed by "Lord of the Rings" and "King Kong" actor Andy Serkis, and it also stars Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris and Woody Harrelson.

• The comedy "Hero Mode" starring Chris Carpenter, Mira Sorvino, Sean Astin, Indiana Massara and Mary Lynn Rajskub.
