uglydolls-new-on-dvd-and-blu-ray

Product Description: Unconventionality rules in UglyDolls, a musical adventure featuring the singing and acting voices of Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Janelle Monáe, Blake Shelton and Pitbull. In Uglyville, weird is celebrated, strange is special and beauty is embraced as more than simply meets the eye. When Moxy and the UglyDolls discover Perfection, a town where dolls are seen through a strict model of attractiveness, they confront what it means to be different, struggle with their desire to be loved, and ultimately discover that you don't have to be perfect to be amazing. Featuring original songs and an all-star cast including Wanda Sykes and Gabriel Iglesias, UglyDolls is “a movie you'll want to watch again, and again!” (Naz Perez, Fandango)

"UglyDolls" is the first computer animated film from STX Entertainment. Directed by Kelly Asbury ("Shrek 2") from a screenplay by Alison Peck and story by Robert Rodriguez ("Sin City"), the film is based on the series of plush toys created by David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim, and it tells the story of the free-spirited UglyDolls, who are confronted with what it means to be different, struggle with a desire to be loved, and ultimately discover who you truly are is what matters most.

The voice cast features Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Janelle Monae, Pitbull, Emma Roberts, Gabriel Iglesias, Wanda Sykes, Ice-T, Jane Lynch and Blake Shelton.

"UglyDolls" opened in theaters on May 3, 2019 and received mostly negative reviews from critics.

weekend-box-office-avengers-endgame-tops-2-billion-worldwide

As expected, Disney and Marvel's "Avengers: Endgame" dominated the weekend box-office and was very close to breaking another major record. Close, but no cigar. Meanwhile, a fresh wave of new releases, "Long Shot", "The Intruder", and "UglyDolls", struggled to find their audiences.

While "Avengers: Endgame" is expected to dominate the box-office in its second weekend and perhaps break new records, we should also focus on what's new in theaters this week. And we have quite a selection, with three wide releases and one limited/semi-wide.

The first new release is "50/50" filmmaker Jonathan Levine's new R-rated romantic comedy "Long Shot" starring Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron. The film is enjoying a positive reception from both critics and audiences, and it brought in $660,000 from Thursday night previews. The film is expected to finish its opening weekend with around $12 million.

We also have STX Entertainment's first computer-animated feature film "UglyDolls" based on the plush toys of the same name. This one isn't getting much love from anyone. However, despite low audience scores on IMDb and Metacritic, it has a curious 79% positive Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film scored $300,000 from previews and might end up with as much as $10 million over the weekend.

If you're looking for something with a certain "creepy" factor (and a bit of silliness to boot), Screen Gems has you covered with their new thriller "The Intruder" starring Michael Ealy, Meagan Good and Dennis Quaid. While the film has been panned by critics and laughed at by audiences, it still looks to be a solid box-office contender with $865,000 from previews and expectations of a $10 million 3-day debut.

Opening in just 605 theaters is "El Chicano", the first Latino superhero movie, marketed as "from the creators of "Smokin' Aces", "The Grey" and "Narc"". Unfortunately, it's not a very good Latino superhero movie, with low scores from critics and a somewhat mixed reception from moviegoers. Rotten Tomatoes, however, once again reports an unusually high 87% Audience Score.
