Xavier Molyneux Lands Lead Role In Viking Series BLOODAXE

Relative newcomer Xavier Molyneux ("Neighbours", "Take My Hand") has landed the lead role in Amazon MGM Studios' upcoming historical drama series "Bloodaxe" from "Vikings" creator Michael Hirst and his son, Horatio Hirst. The show was officially ordered in March, and production begins in Ireland at the end of July.

"Bloodaxe" chronicles the rise of one of history's most famous Viking warriors, Erik Bloodaxe (Molyneux), and his formidable wife, Gunnhild, Mother of Kings. As they fight for the throne of Norway, the land is torn apart by fierce rivals, shifting loyalties and bloody betrayals. With war looming and chaos consuming the kingdom, drawing in the ruthless kings of other Scandinavian countries and even a powerful English ruler, the stage is set for a thundering new Viking saga.

The new series bears creative similiarities to the 2013 and 2022 shows "Vikings" and "Vikings: Valhalla", but is not directly related to those shows. The new Norse saga takes place decades after the original series and decades before "Valhalla".

Michael and Horatio Hirst created, write and executive produce the series for MGM Television. Other executive prodcuers include Steve Stark of Toluca Pictures, who as head of MGM Television, oversaw both "Vikings" series, along with fellow franchise veterans Morgan O'Sullivan, Arturo Interian, John Weber and Sheila Hockin.
