Hugh Laurie Joins Legacy Of Spies Based On John Le Carres Novel

"The Night Manager" star Hugh Laurie is set to join another John le Carré adaptation, BBC and MGM+'s "Legacy of Spies". Filming is currently underway. There is no information about Laurie's character. The show will be one of BBC and MGM+'s most expensive projects, and is produced by The Ink Factory, which is run by le Carré's sons Stephen and Simon Cornwell. Fifth Season is handling global sales.

"Legacy of Spies" is based on the 1963 Cold War spy novel "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold" and its 2017 prequel novel "A Legacy of Spies", which is also a sequel to "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy". The plot follows George Smiley and his overarching quest to hunt down his Soviet spymaster nemesis, Karla, spanning locations across the UK, Czechoslovakia, and a divided Germany. The series is written by Stephen Cornwell and Clarissa Ingram.

The ensemble cast includes Matthew Macfadyen as George Smiley, Charlie Hunnam as Alec Leamas, Dan Stevens as Bill Haydon, Daniel Brühl as Josef Fiedler, Devrim Lingnau Islamoğlu as Doris Quinz, Felix Kammerer as Hans-Dieter Mundt, Agnes O'Casey as Liz Gold, Jake Dunn as Peter Guillam, Safia Oakley-Green as Molly Gibson, and Ariyon Bakare as Cy Aflon.

Laurie is also set to star in the third season of "The Night Manager". He also stars in Apple TV's "Tehran", and has joined Peacock's "Dig" opposite Amy Poehler.
