Tom Hanks to Star in A MAN CALLED OVE Remake Directed by Marc Forster

Two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks will star in the U.S. adaptation of the Swedish comedy "A Man Called Ove", which will be directed by Marc Forster ("Finding Neverland", "World War Z"). The script is penned by Oscar nominated writer David Magee ("Life of Pi"). Forster and Magee previously collaborated on "Finding Neverland".

Based on the Swedish hit novel of the same name, the story follows Ove, an ill-tempered, isolated retiree who has finally given up on life just as an unlikely friendship develops with his boisterous new neighbors. Directed by Hannes Holm, the 2015 film received two Oscar nominations for Best Foreigh Language Film and Best Makeup.

Production is expected to begin this year. No official release date has been announced. Fredrik Wikström Nicastro of Nordic major SF Studios is producing with Rita Wilson ("Mamma Mia!"), and Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman. Forster will serve as executive producer alongside Renée Wolfe via their production company 2DUX2.

Hanks finished work on Baz Luhrmann's untitled Elvis Presley movie, Disney's live-action remake "Pinocchio" and Wes Anderson's romantic comedy "Asteroid City", which also stars Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie, Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody, Jeff Goldblum and Liev Schreiber. He is also set to star in Joe Wright's upcoming historical drama "In the Garden of the Beasts".
