New on DVD and Blu-ray: August 15, 2017

This week on DVD and Blu-ray we have the sci-fi horror "Alien: Covenant", the thriller "The Wall" starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the comedy "How To Be a Latin Lover", the YA adaptation "Everything, Everything" and the boxing biopic "Chuck" starring Liev Schreiber.

In the television category there are new seasons for "The Blacklist", "Riverdale", "Once Upon a Time", "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" and "Murdoch Mysteries".

Other new Blu-ray releases this week include an "Alien" six-film collection, the 50th Anniversary Edition of the "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", a Roadshow Edition for "Duel in the Sun", "Meantime" and "Hopscotch" Criterion Collections, and a "Missing in Action" Collector's Edition.

Weekend Box-Office: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 Tops Memorial Day Weekend As BAYWATCH Sinks

As expected, Disney's behemoth "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" topped the charts this Memorial Day weekend, but the biggest disappointment comes from the "Baywatch" reboot.

Weekend Box-Office: ALIEN COVENANT Narrowly Edges Out GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2

New arrival "Alien: Covenant" managed to beat out "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" for the top spot at the box-office, while the other new wide releases "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul" and "Everything, Everything" were too small to matter.

ALIEN: COVENANT Trailers, Clips, Featurette, Images and Posters

Director Ridley Scott returns to the franchise he started back in 1979 with "Alien: Covenant", a new installment in the Alien series and a sequel to "Prometheus", both films serving as a prequel origin story for the franchise.

The film follows the crew of the colony ship Covenant who find a remote planet and decide to explore the uncharted paradise. What they discover is the stuff of nightmares.

The cast includes Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demian Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Amy Seimetz, Benjamin Rigby and James Franco.

"Alien: Covenant" opened in theaters on May 19th, 2017 and received generally positive reviews from critics. The film is expected to gross around $40 million in its opening weekend at the box-office.

This week in theaters we have Ridley Scott' "Alien: Covenant", a new entry in the Alien franchise that Scott started back in 1979, and a sequel to his 2012 prequel "Prometheus". Other new wide releases are the YA romance "Everything, Everything" and the comedy sequel "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul". In limited release, Bryan Cranston delivers another riveting performance in the drama "Wakefield".

ALIEN: COVENANT Video Introduces Us to Michael Fassbender's Walter

20th Century Fox continues to promote Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant", this time through a video showcasing the latest model of synthetics featured in the film.

Directed by Scott's son Luke Scott ("Morgan"), the clip, titled "Meet Walter", is designed like a creepy ad from the future that showcases Walter (Michael Fassbender), the new android from Weyland-Yutani. Hopefully, this one works better than David from "Prometheus" did. Synthetics in the "Alien" universe have a pretty bad reputation, but maybe it's time to change all that. Today we have a new scary trailer for Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant". This time we get a lot more footage that teases both the film's mysterious planet and the new xenomorphs in action. It's the usual "Alien" and "Prometheus" aesthetic but this one looks like it's going to be more of an all-out horror film than the 2012 film.

The film stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Benjamin Rigby and James Franco.

ALIEN: COVENANT Prologue - Last Supper

20th Century Fox has released a new video for Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant". The 5-minute clip is an extended prologue that will not be included in the film and it introduces us to the film's new ensemble cast, the crew of the colony ship "Covenant" as they enjoy some time together before entering cryosleep (and all hell breaks loose).

The film stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Benjamin Rigby and James Franco.

ALIEN: COVENANT Official Trailer and Poster

It's been a difficult wait, but 20th Century Fox has finally released the first trailer for Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant", the upcoming installment in the "Alien" franchise, and a follow-up to Scott's "Prometheus".

The trailer is wonderfully mysterious and doesn't lay out the plot from start to finish like most other blockbuster trailers, but instead relies on atmosphere, a great choice of music, and a decent amount of gore to start with. The film chronicles the adventures of the colony ship Covenant's crew as they discover what they think is an uncharted paradise. The planet is, as it turns out, a much darker and dangerous place than any of them could have imagined.

It's not exactly explained, but the synopsis also mentions that the crew discover the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), a survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition, but we'll have to wait and see how he got there, and where is the other survivor from the previous film, Elizabeth Shaw. We know for a fact Shaw will make an appearance, because Noomi Rapace is confirmed to star in this film, but it could just be a flashback of sorts. And, yes, everyone's favorite xenomorph will be in this film, as confirmed by the final moments of the trailer.

The cast also includes Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Carmen Ejogo, Danny McBride, Demian Bichir, Callie Hernandez and Guy Pearce.

"Alien: Covenant" will open in theaters on May 19th, 2017.
