Noomi Rapace Millicent Simmonds Star In Horror Thriller No Mans Land

Noomi Rapace ("The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") and Millicent Simmonds ("A Quiet Place") are set to star in the upcoming dystopian horror thriller "No Man's Land". The film is directed by Russian-Iranian filmmaker Vasilisa Kuzmina ("Nika") from a script co-written by Kuzmina and Daisy Anderson, and is set to begin shooting in Spain in April 2026.

The film has been described as a dystopian thriller with elements of "The Handmaid's Tale" and the ritualistic tension of "Midsommar". Rapace stars as Magda, the enigmatic and resilient leader of an entirely female-led community she built in the wake of a devastating civil war. Simmonds will play Elle, a devoted follower in Magda's cause.

When Magda's son returns from the front to this world without men, his arrival stirs a growing unease among the group. As the women's hostility mounts and unimaginable violence begins to unfold, he comes to fear that the truth about what they've built — and what they've done to protect it — may cost him his life.

"No Man's Land" draws inspiration from real events in Hungary between the 1910s and 1920s, when a tightly knit group of women in a small village, led by a charismatic figure known as Auntie Suzy, began murdering their abusive husbands in an effort to reclaim control of their lives. Known as the "Angel Makers of Nagyrév", the group killed between 50 and several hundred men.

Juliana Lubin is producing with Frank Ariza's AF Films in association with Boom Films and Rapace, who also serves as executive producer.

Ariza had this to say about the project: "Producing No Man's Land has been one of the most ambitious and creatively fulfilling experiences of my career. At AF Films, we've built a legacy of producing stories that challenge audiences while showcasing the depth of European cinema — and this film is no exception. Shooting in Spain allows us to bring authenticity and atmosphere to Vasilisa's powerful vision, blending striking artistry with emotional truth. It's a project that pushes boundaries, unites remarkable talent, and reflects exactly the kind of daring, world-class filmmaking we're proud to champion".

Rapace can next be seen as Mother Theresa in Macedonian director Teona Strugar Mitevska's drama "Mother".

Noomi Rapace to Play Mossad Agent in Vicky Jewson's Action Drama SYLVIA

"The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" star Noomi Rapace is set to reunite with "Close" helmer Vicky Jewson for the action drama "Sylvia". The project is being developed in collaboration with WestEnd Films, specifically its female-centric brand WeLove. The London-based international sales and film financing company will handle negotiations with buyers at Cannes.

Rapace will play South African-born Sylvia Rafael, Mossad's most famous female agent, who was noted for her intelligence work in locating Ali Hassan Salameh, the leader of Palestine's Black September organization and the man responsible for the terrorist attack that claimed the life of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

The mission, however, led to her involvement in the infamous Lillehammer affair in 1973, in which an innocent Moroccan waiter was mistakenly identified as Salameh and killed by Rafael's team. She was convicted of murder in Norway and sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison. She was released after serving 15 months and deported from Norway. She died in Pretoria, South Africa, in 2005 at age 67, from leukemia. A square named after her was built in the Israeli town of Migdal.

The screenplay is being written by Jewson and "Close" co-writer Rupert Whitaker based on the book "Sylvia Rafael: The Life and Death of a Mossad Spy" by Ram Oren and Moti Kfir. Kfir was a former Mossad agent who trained Rafael.

Here is what Jewson said about the film:
"What is so enticing about this project is the opportunity to tell the true story of an extraordinary woman, who sacrificed a huge part of her life for a country that was not originally her own.

I am keen to explore the unique personality of someone who put their life at risk on a daily basis and lived under a permanent dual identity, searching beyond the often glamorously perceived title of ‘spy’ to the gritty reality of this life and what drove her"

alien-covenant-teaser-trailer-and-poster

It's been a difficult wait, but 20th Century Fox has finally released the first trailer for Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant", the upcoming installment in the "Alien" franchise, and a follow-up to Scott's "Prometheus".

The trailer is wonderfully mysterious and doesn't lay out the plot from start to finish like most other blockbuster trailers, but instead relies on atmosphere, a great choice of music, and a decent amount of gore to start with. The film chronicles the adventures of the colony ship Covenant's crew as they discover what they think is an uncharted paradise. The planet is, as it turns out, a much darker and dangerous place than any of them could have imagined.

It's not exactly explained, but the synopsis also mentions that the crew discover the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), a survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition, but we'll have to wait and see how he got there, and where is the other survivor from the previous film, Elizabeth Shaw. We know for a fact Shaw will make an appearance, because Noomi Rapace is confirmed to star in this film, but it could just be a flashback of sorts. And, yes, everyone's favorite xenomorph will be in this film, as confirmed by the final moments of the trailer.

The cast also includes Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Carmen Ejogo, Danny McBride, Demian Bichir, Callie Hernandez and Guy Pearce.

"Alien: Covenant" will open in theaters on May 19th, 2017.

Check out the trailer and poster after the jump.

Noomi Rapace
Amy Winehouse
Swedish actress Noomi Rapace ("Prometheus", "Millenium" trilogy) is in talks to play Amy Winehouse in an upcoming biopic.

According to Screen Daily, the film is being developed by Subotica Films, one of Ireland's leading film and TV production companies whose credits include the Jimi Hendrix biopic "Jimi: All Is by My Side" and Jake Paltrow's sci-fi drama "Young Ones". Also involved are City Entertainment, the US company responsable for the forgettable 2014 "Rosemary's Baby" mini-series adaptation.

The script has been written by Kirsten Sheridan, daughter of renowned director Jim Sheridan ("In the Name of the Father"), who is also expected to direct. She is known for helming "August Rush" and co-writing the Oscar-nominated script of "In America" alongside her father and sister.

Rapace is working hard these days. In 2016 she can be seen in four films: Síofra Campbell's thriller "The Price", Michael Apted's "Unlocked", and the sci-fi thrillers "Rupture" and Tommy Wirkola's "What Happened to Monday ?". She is also set to star as Maria Callas in Niki Caro's "Callas", and will reportedly join Christian Bale in the biopic "Enzo Ferrari". And, on top of all that, she will be reprising her role as Elizabeth Shaw in Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" sequel titled "Alien: Paradise Lost".
