"Suicide Squad" director
David Ayer and star
Will Smith reteam for the fantasy actioner
"Bright". Written by
Max Landis (
"Chronicle"), the film is set in an alternate reality in which humans, orcs, elves and other fantasy creatures live side by side in an uneasy peace after thousands of years of war.
Will Smith and
Joel Edgerton star as a human cop and his Orc partner, who must work together to protect a young female elf (
Lucy Fry) and a thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which in the wrong hands could destroy everything.
The film also stars
Noomi Rapace, Edgar Ramirez, Veronica Ngo, Ike Barinholtz, Dawn Olivieri, Margaret Cho and
Jay Hernandez.
"Bright" was released worldwide on Netflix on December 22, 2017 and received mostly negative reviews from critics. The audience response, however, was more positive, and the film quickly became one of Netflix's most streamed programs ever and the #1 movie on the streaming platform in over 190 countries. This prompted Netflix to green-light a sequel with
Will Smith and
Joel Edgerton expected to return.
