Netflix's ASSASSIN'S CREED Live-Action Series Starts Filming in Rome

Assassins Creed Live Action Series Starts Filming In Rome

As Netflix's live-action "Assassin's Creed" series has started production at Rome's Cinecittà Studios on March 9th, the streamer has revealed that the show is an original story set in 64 A.D. in the heart of the Roman Empire. With a scheduled filming duration of seven months, it is expected to wrap in October. The show will also shoot in Rome's Lazio region and in Tuscany.

The official synopsis reads as follows: "Assassin's Creed is a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions—one set on determining mankind's future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity's destiny."

Johan Renck ("Chernobyl") directs, while Emmy nominees Roberto Patino ("Westworld", "Sons of Anarchy") and David Wiener ("Halo", "The Killing", "Homecoming") serve creators, showrunners and executive producers. The adaptation is the first series to be developed under Netflix's partnership with Ubisoft for "Assassin’s Creed".

The series stars Lola Petticrew, Toby Wallace, Zachary Hart, Laura Marcus, Tanzyn Crawford, Nabhann Rizwan, Claes Bang, Noomi Rapace, Ramzy Bedia, Sean Harris, and Corrado Invernizzi. Netflix also revealed new additions to the cast: Louis McCartney ("Stranger Things: The First Shadow"), Mirren Mack ("28 Years Later: The Bone Temple"), Youssef Kerkour ("A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms") and Sandra Guldberg-Kampp ("Foundation").

The production team includes Italian costume designer Carlo Poggioli ("The Leopard", "The New Pope"), and line producer Nicola Rosada ("Emily in Paris", "La Dolce Villa").

Cinecittà Studios CEO Manuela Cacciamani said in a statement: "I am honored that Netflix has chosen our studios and our sets to create such a spectacular, ambitious series that is eagerly anticipated around the world. It is a sign of the credibility and reputation that Cinecittà enjoys internationally, and of the professional guarantee we offer to every kind of production, of any genre and scale. But I am even more honored by the trust placed in our skilled workforce and in our art department, which is collaborating on the creation of truly spectacular sets. With its masters, Cinecittà confirms itself as a recognized artistic excellence and a source of pride for our country.".

With more than 230 million units sold, the "Assassin's Creed" franchise is one of the bestselling series in video game history. The franchise now includes a total of 14 installments. Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill and Genevieve Jones of Ubisoft Film & Television serve as executive producers, alongside Matt O'Toole.
