The newly released Blumhouse/Atomic Monster horror film "Other Mommy" starring Jessica Chastain was the weekend's big winner, while Aaron Sorkin's Facebook movie "The Social Reckoning" starring Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White and Jeremy Strong severely underperformed in its opening weekend. Meanwhile, Angel Studios racks up another flop with the western "Angel and the Badman", a remake of the 1947 John Wayne classic.

The R-rated horror film "Other Mommy" topped the charts with a $27.8 million opening weekend from 3,365 theaters. Another 2026 hit for Blumhouse and James Wan following "Obsession" and "Insidious: Out of the Further". Overseas, the film also raked in $17.8 million, which brings its global debut to $45.6 million. The movie only cost $19 million to produce, which means it's already making a profit. Unfortunately, next week will probably see "Other Mommy" take a steep dive, considering that both critics and moviegoers hated it (16% on Rotten Tomatoes and "D+" CinemaScore).
Last week's No. 1 movie, the Colleen Hoover adaptation "Verity", finished its second weekend in second place with $12 million, which is a severe 62.5% drop from its debut. Still, it's a decent hit, grossing $54.3 million, so far, in North America, and another $59.4 million internationally. That's a worldwide total of $113.8 million against a $40 million budget.
"Resident Evil" is down from #3 to #2 in its fourth weekend, raking in another $8.5 million, down 32.1% from the previous week. The film has now grossed a total of $138.7 million domestically, and another $183 million from foreign markets, which adds up to a global cume of $321.7 million against a $75 million budget.
The Brad Pitt starrer "Heart of the Beast" finished its third weekend in fourth place with $7.4 million, down just 31.6%. The film's domestic total is now at $50 million, and internationally it raked in $81.7 million. The film reportedly cost around $82 million to produce, and the studio spent aproximatively $30 million for marketing. Considering it grossed $131.7 million worldwide, it's actually a modest hit.
The Top 5 is rounded out by the fact-based drama "The Social Reckoning", which tanked with $5 million from 2,606 theaters. It wasn't a very wide release, compared to other contenders, but it's still a disappointing debut. Internationally it only added another $3.3 million. The film's budget is estimated at around $42 million, without marketing costs, which makes it a considerable flop. "The Social Reckoning" received a mixed reception from both critics (55% on Rotten Tomatoes) and audiences ("B-" CinemaScore).
The last of the new wide releases, the Angel Studios western "Angel and the Badman", opened in tenth place with $2.1 million from 2,263 theaters. The film received a negative reception from critics (23% on Rotten Tomatoes), while moviegoers were more mixed on it ("B-" on CinemaScore).
