The Skywalker Saga ended with 2019's "Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker", but apparently, that's not the end of that particular story. Jon Watts, the director of "Spider-Man: Homecoming", "Spider-Man: Far From Home" and "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is set to continue the epic saga of the Skywalkers in what will be the first installment in a new trilogy written by Simon Kinberg ("X-Men: Dark Phoenix", "X-Men: First Class", "Star Wars Rebels").
Kinberg has been working on the new trilogy since 2018, with Daisy Ridley reportedly set to reprise her role as Rey. It has also been reported that the new project has not yet received a greenlight from Disney.
The Skywalker Saga started in 1977 with George Lucas' "Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope", followed by the first of the sequels "Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back" in 1980 and "Episode VI — Return of the Jedi" in 1983. In 1999 Lucas expanded the saga with the prequel trilogy "Episode I — The Phantom Menace" (1999), "Episode II: Attack of the Clones" (2002) and "Episode III — Revenge of the Sith" (2005).
The Skywalker Saga then ended (or so we thought) with the sequel trilogy that included "Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens" (2015), "Episode VIII — The Last Jedi" (2017) and "Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker (2019)", which introduced Ridley's Rey.
But before work starts on the new trilogy, the next "Star Wars" movie to hit theaters is "Star Wars: Starfighter" starring Ryan Gosling, which opens in theaters on May 28, 2027.
