new-on-dvd-and-blu-ray-august-1-2017

The new DVD and Blu-ray releases for the week of August 1st, 2017 include the hi-tech thriller "The Circle" starring Emma Watson and Tom Hanks, the comedy "Going in Style" starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin, the drama "Wakefield" starring Bryan Cranston and the sci-fi dramedy "Colossal" starring Anne Hathaway.

In the television category we have two new releases from HBO, the mini-series "Big Little Lies" and the first season of "Crashing", as well as the second season of the thriller series "Fortitude".

Also out now on Blu-ray are Limited Edition Steelbook editions for John Carpenter's classics "They Live", "Escape from New York" and "The Fog", and a new Collector's Edition for James Gunn's "Slither".

wakefield-2017-movie-trailer-clips-images-and-poster

Written and directed by Robin Swicord ("The Jane Austen Book Club") based on the short story of the same name by E. L. Doctorow, the drama "Wakefield" tells the story of a prestigious Manhattan lawyer (Bryan Cranston) who suffers a breakdown and hides out in the attic of his carriage house garage for several months, observing the lives of his wife (Jennifer Garner), children and neighbors.

The film also stars Beverly D'Angelo, Jason O'Mara, Ian Anthony Dale and Pippa Bennett-Warner.

"Wakefield" premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in 2016 and received a limited release in theaters on May 19th, 2017, followed by a release through video on demand on May 26th. The film received mixed to positive reviews from critics.

This week in theaters we have Ridley Scott' "Alien: Covenant", a new entry in the Alien franchise that Scott started back in 1979, and a sequel to his 2012 prequel "Prometheus". Other new wide releases are the YA romance "Everything, Everything" and the comedy sequel "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul". In limited release, Bryan Cranston delivers another riveting performance in the drama "Wakefield".
