Weekend Box-Office: DOG MAN Repeats In First As HEART EYES and LOVE HURTS Disappoint

DreamWorks Animation's family film "Dog Man" topped the charts in its sophomore frame, which also happened to be the Super Bowl weekend. The newly released romantic slasher comedy "Heart Eyes" and the action comedy "Love Hurts" fought hard for second and third place, but in the end, neither film succeeded in attracting a considerable audience.

Weekend Box Office: DOG MAN Bites Off $36 Million Debut

DreamWorks Animation's new film "Dog Man" based on the popular children's graphic novel topped the charts over the weekend, while the sci-fi horror film "Companion" came in at a far second place. As February kicks in, December-January holdovers are still giving the box office a welcome boost.

COMPANION (2025) - Trailers, Clips, Images and Poster

"Companion" is a sci-fi horror film written and directed by Drew Hancock ("My Dead Ex", "Suburgatory"). The cast includes Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillen and Rupert Friend. The film opened in theaters on January 31, 2025.

New Trailers: A WORKING MAN, COMPANION, ARMAND, GEORGE A. ROMERO'S RESIDENT EVIL, IN THE LOST LANDS and THE QUIET ONES

Today we have new trailers for:

• David Ayer's new action thriller "A Working Man" starring Jason Statham. The film is not a sequel to Ayer's "The Beekeeper", but an adaptation of the 2014 action-revenge novel "Levon's Trade" by comic book writer Chuck Dixon. Ayer and Sylvester Stallone collaborated on the script.
• The sci-fi psychological thriller "Companion" written and directed by Drew Hancock and starring Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid.
• The though-provoking Norwegian thriller "Armand" written and directed by Halfdan Ullmann Tøndel, which won the Caméra d'Or for Best First Feature Film at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. The film stars Renate Reinsve ("The Worst Person in the World", "Presumed Innocent"), Ellen Dorrit Petersen and Endre Hellestveit.
• Brandon Salisbury's documentary "George A. Romero's Resident Evil" which tells the story of the unrealized "Resident Evil" big screen adaptation which would have been written and directed by filmmaker George A. Romero. Unfortunately, Romero's script was rejected by the game's publisher Capcom.
• The post-apocalyptic action fantasy film "In the Lost Lands" co-written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson ("Mortal Kombat", "Event Horizon", "Resident Evil") based on a short story by George R.R. Martin ("Game of Thrones"). The film stars Milla Jovovich, Dave Bautista and Arly Jover.
• The Danish crime thriller "The Quiet Ones" inspired by true events. The film is directed by Frederik Louis Hviid and it stars Gustav Dyekjær Giese, Reda Kateb, Amanda Collin, Christopher Wagelin and Jens Hulten.

• The unusual music biopic "Better Man" that tells the story of British pop star Robbie Williams. The unusual part is that Williams will be depicted as a monkey. Yes, you read that right. The film is directed by Michael Gracey ("The Greatest Showman").
• Netflix's darkly comic sci-fi slasher thriller "Time Cut" starring Madison Bailey, Antonia Gentry and Michael Shanks. The film is directed by Hannah MacPherson ("Into the Dark") from a script she co-wrote alongside Michael Kennedy ("Freaky").
• The romantic thriller "Companion" from the producers of the hit horror movie "Barbarian". The film is written and directed by Drew Hancock ("Suburgatory" and "My Dead Ex" writer), and it stars Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri and Harvey Guillen.
• The psychological thriller "Cellar Door" starring Jordana Brewster ("Fast & Furious") and Scott Speedman ("Animal Kingdom").
• The drama "The Line" starring Alex Wolff, Lewis Pullman, Halle Bailey, Austin Abrams, Angus Cloud, Bo Mitchell, and Denise Richards. The film is directed by first-time feature filmmaker Ethan Berger.
• The dark quirky comedy "Let's Start A Cult" comedian and podcaster Stavros Halkias, who also co-writes alongside director Ben Kitnick and co-star Wes Haney.
