Weekend Box Office: DOG MAN Bites Off $36 Million Debut

DreamWorks Animation's new film "Dog Man" based on the popular children's graphic novel topped the charts over the weekend, while the sci-fi horror film "Companion" came in at a far second place. As February kicks in, December-January holdovers are still giving the box office a welcome boost.

Weekend Box Office: Mel Gibson's FLIGHT RISK Gives Lionsgate Its Second #1 Movie In 2025

The thriller "Flight Risk" directed by Mel Gibson and starring Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery and Topher Grace, landed in first place, already giving Lionsgate a second #1 opener this year. Meanwhile, Steven Soderbergh's supernatural thriller "Presence" didn't make much of an impression, while Angel Studios' new wide release "Brave the Dark" failed to make it into the Top 10.

FLIGHT RISK (2025) - Trailers, Featurette, Images and Posters

"Flight Risk" is an action thriller directed by Mel Gibson ("Braveheart", "Hacksaw Ridge") from a script by Jares Rosenberg, which in 2020 was voted onto the year's "Black List" of the most-liked unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. The cast features Michelle Dockery, Mark Wahlberg and Topher Grace. The film opened in theaters on January 24, 2025.

• The sci-fi adventure comedy "The Electric State" starring Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Giancarlo Esposito and Stanley Tucci. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo ("Avengers: Endgame") and it's based on the 2018 graphic novel of the same name by Simon Stalenhag

• The true story underdog baseball movie "You Gotta Believe" starring Luke Wilson, Greg Kinnear, Sarah Gadon and Lew Temple. The film is directed by Texas-based filmmaker Ty Roberts (12 Mighty Orphans").
• The action thriller "Clear Cut" starring Clive Standen ("Vikings"), Lucy Martin, Jesse Metcalfe, Tom Welling, Lochlyn Munro, Chelsey Reist, Tom Stevens, Mike Dopud, Stephen Dorff and Alec Baldwin.
• The Netflix action comedy "The Union" starring Mark Wahlberg, Halle Berry, J. K. Simmons, Mike Colter, Jackie Earle Haley and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
• The HBO documentary "Faye" that chronicles the life and career of Oscar-winning actress Faye Dunaway.

Topher Grace and Michelle Dockery Join Mark Wahlberg in Mel Gibson's FLIGHT RISK

Topher Grace (Home Economics") and Michelle Dockery ("Downton Abbey") have signed on to star in Academy Award winner Mel Gibson's upcoming suspense thriller "Flight Risk". Based on a 2020 Black List script by Jared Rosenberg, the Lionsgate movie will be Gibson's first directorial project since "Hacksaw Ridge".

The film stars Mark Wahlberg as a pilot transporting an Air Marshal (Dockery), who's been tasked with accompanying a fugitive (Grace) to trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.

Davis Entertainment is producing alongside Gibson and Bruce Davey through their Icon Productions. Hammerstone Studios is also producing the project.

Dockery recently completed production on Destry Allyn Spielberg's debut feature "Please Don't Feed the Children". She can also be seen in Robert Zemeckis' new film "Here" alongside Tom Hanks, the action thriller "Boy Kills World" with Bill Skarsgaard, and Steven Knight's limited series "This Town".
