Stonehearst Asylum (2014) new on DVD and Blu-Ray

Product Description: When young doctor Edward Newgate (Jim Sturgess) arrives at Stonehearst Asylum in search of an apprenticeship, he is warmly welcomed by superintendent Dr. Lamb (Ben Kingsley) and a mesmerizing woman by the name of Eliza Graves (Kate Beckinsale). Edward is intrigued by Lamb's modern methods of treating the insane until a series of unusual events leads him to make a horrifying discovery, exposing Lamb s utopia and pushing Edward to the limits of his conscience. Inspired by a short story from Edgar Allan Poe, Stonehearst Asylum is a tale in which nobody is who or what they appear to be.

Trailer and Poster for Stonehearst Asylum starring Kate Beckinsale

The first trailer and poster for the thriller "Stonehearst Asylum" have been released. The film is directed by Brad Anderson ("The Machinist") based on Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether" and it was previously titled "Eliza Graves". Jim Sturgess stars as a medical school grad who takes a position at a mental institution where he soon finds himself taken with one of his colleagues, though he has no initial idea of a recent, horrifying staffing change. Kate Beckinsale, Michael Caine, Ben Kingsley, Brendan Gleeson and David Thewlis also star.

"Stonehearst Asylum" does not currently have a release date.

Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale is in talks to star in "Eliza Graves", the adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's 1945 short story "The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether". The film will be directed by Brad Anderson ("The Call", "The Machinist"). Anderson replaced Oren Peli ("Paranormal Activity"), who was originally attached to direct. Beckinsale's character, the titular Eliza Graves, is "a Harvard Medical School grad who takes a job at an insane asylum, falling for one of the doctors but then discovering that the occupants have taken it over." The production will begin on June 21st in Bulgaria.

Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin), the film also stars Alice Eve (Sex and the City 2), Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Faster).When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper—part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story. Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe’s writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author’s help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer’s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it’s too late.

Alice Eve and John Cusack talk about their new movie, "The Raven", directed by James McTeigue ("V for Vendetta"). In this gothic thriller, Edgar Allan Poe (Cusack) is dragged into a series of gruesome murders inspired by his stories. The movie looks to be a very stylish Victorian-era "Seven", but I was thinking that it looks a lot closer to Guy Ritchie's take on "Sherlock Holmes", minus the humor, obviously. "The Raven" will be released in the US on March 9, 2012.
