jeremy-renner-bourne-legacy

While "The Bourne Legacy" was not as successful as the original Bourne trilogy, a sequel was certainly expected. Now, it has been announced that director Justin Lin ("Fast & Furious 6") will direct the next installment which will be based on the novel "The Bourne Betrayal" by author Eric Van Lustbader. Lustbader, who also wrote "The Bourne Legacy" took over the stories set in the Bourne universe, while Bourne himself was created by Robert Ludlum. The sequel will probably be released in 2015 and Jeremy Renner will return to play Aaron Cross . Until then, here is the synopsis for the book "The Bourne Betrayal":
"Already devastated by loss, Bourne is shattered by a report that his last friend in the world, Martin Lindros has gone missing. A CI deputy director, Lindros was in Ethiopia tracking suspicious shipments of yellowcake uranium and atomic bomb weaponry. His last lifeline to humanity, Bourne will not let Lindros go. Despite his hatred for CI, Bourne sets out to rescue his friend and finish the job: dismantling a terrorist network determined to build nuclear armaments by cutting off their source of money. But Bourne doesn’t realize that these men, Islamic supremacists, are leaders of an incredibly dangerous, technologically savvy group with ties from Africa, across the Middle East, and into Eastern Europe and Russia. They have predicted Bourne’s every move, and are counting on his unwitting help in their plans to destroy America."

saw-sequel

Lionsgate is working on a new "Saw" sequel. This is, for now, a rumor that's been circulating through various sources, but considering the franchise's success, it's not all that improbable. The last entry in the series, "Saw 3D" was released in 2010, and since then, "Paranormal Activity" took over the month of October. According to Bloody Disgusting, Lionsgate is not in any rush to release a new "Saw" as they are trying to get it right before moving forward. Given the quality of the sequels and how ridiculous the story got in the end, I think it's a good thing that they're waiting for the right story for the follow-up. While there were rumors that the studio might consider a remake, it seems that in the end they would prefer to go with "Saw 8"

"Horrible Bosses 2" has started production. Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx and Kevin Spacey will reprise their role from the first film and they will be joined by new villains played by Christoph Waltz and Chris Pine. You can read more details about the sequel's plot in the following press release. "Horrible Bosses 2" will open in theaters on November 28, 2014.
"Filming has begun in Los Angeles on New Line Cinema’s “Horrible Bosses 2,” directed by Sean Anders (“Sex Drive”). The follow-up to the 2011 hit comedy “Horrible Bosses” reunites stars Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis as everyone’s favorite working stiffs Nick, Dale and Kurt. Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx and Kevin Spacey also reprise their starring roles, while Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz star as new adversaries standing between the guys and their dreams of success.

Fed up with answering to higher-ups, Nick, Dale and Kurt decide to become their own bosses by launching their own business in “Horrible Bosses 2.” But a slick investor soon pulls the rug out from under them. Outplayed and desperate, and with no legal recourse, the three would-be entrepreneurs hatch a misguided plan to kidnap the investor’s adult son and ransom him to regain control of their company.

Sean Anders directs from a screenplay by Anders & John Morris (“We’re the Millers”), and by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein (“Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2”), who also served as writers on the first film. “Horrible Bosses 2” is being produced by Brett Ratner, Jay Stern, John Morris, John Rickard and Chris Bender, with Diana Pokorny and John Cheng serving as executive producers.

The behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Julio Macat (“Pitch Perfect”), production designer Clayton Hartley (“We’re the Millers”), editor Eric Kissack (“The Dictator”) and costume designer Carol Ramsey (“Identity Thief”).

“Horrible Bosses 2” is a New Line Cinema presentation of a RatPac Entertainment/Benderspink production. The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. "

"The Wolverine 2" is moving forward and 20th Century Fox is currently in negotiations with director James Mangold and Hugh Jackman. Deadline reports that Mangold is in talks to "write the treatment". "X-Men" franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner is attached to produce the sequel. Once the negotiations end we can expect a more robust official press release offering some details about where the Wolverine series is headed.

Well, it seems that "Evil Dead 4" aka "Army of Darkness 2" is not happening, after all. This past week there were several confusing rumors inflated by "Evil Dead" remake director Fede Alvarez and Bruce Campbell himself. You can read all about the sequel statements here. Now Campbell shoots down the sequel rumors himself in a recent interview. Watch it below:

sam raimi evil dead

These last couple of days have been all about mixed messages regarding the "Evil Dead" franchise. It all started when Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez sort of announced via Twitter that Sam Raimi will be directing "Army of Darkness 2". For the uninitiated, "Army of Darkness" was the third installment in Raimi's Evil Dead trilogy. This came as a confirmation of another announcement of sorts made by franchise star Bruce Campbell at the Wizard World Nashville Comic Con.

bruce campbell evil dead
Here is Bruce Campbell's half-kidding, half-serious statement when asked about "Army of Darkness 2":
"The last one was twenty-two years ago. I just haven’t been racing to do it. Sam Raimi is just a little bit busy making the biggest movies in Hollywood. I used to be busy. Now I’m not. That’s why I’m here."

Ash would have to stop occasionally from chasing some deadite to catch his breath. Maybe we could do that, I guess. That would be exciting. Fight in a walker. That would be alright. Hit them with my cane. Fake them out, have a fake heart attack, distract a zombie. I like it.

Alright sir, the answer is yes."
A few days later, Fede Alvarez was asked about that sequel on Twitter and his response pointed towards Raimi taking over the project. Here is the Twitter exchange:
Benjamin Thiele @thielebenjamin: "Hey @fedalvar will you be directing the Army Of Darkness 2 movie?"

Fede Alvarez @fedalvar: "Sam Raimi will!"
evil dead 2013 remake

Everything gets stranger, though, when it comes to Alvarez's own "Evil Dead" sequel. Although initially the young director and co-writer Rodo Sayagues were tapped to develop a sequel for the remake, Sayagues spoke about the project yesterday and revealed that in fact both he and Alvarez had left the project many months ago:
"Look, I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen. Evil Dead 2 is not going to happen, at least not with us involved. We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things. I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project."
Today Fede Alvarez has responded via Twitter that we shouldn't believe everything we read online. The exact quote is: "Don't believe everything you read online..." Furthermore, the director told Bloody Disgusting that it was all a misunderstanding, and that "Rodo meant we’re not actually making Evil Dead 2 right now because the priority is Sam [Raimi's] Army of Darkness 2. But the plan of making a sequel to our Evil Dead is very much alive."

In conclusion, it seems that everything is all right and fans will get not one, but two sequels, one for each of the "Evil Dead" series, and Raimi's movie will be released first.

EVIL DEAD Remake Mutilation Scene

Today we have more distrubing clips from the "Evil Dead" remake directed by Fede Alvarez. The first is a red band clip, so proceed with caution. It's very, very violent and gory (see the image above). The second clip is more focused on suspense, as Jane Levy confesses that there's some unseen entity stalking her. It's too soon to make any real judgement on the film, since the clips only show the same violence and dialogue that we've seen in countless other horror movies, but the early buzz has been positive, so there's a good chance that the remake will live up to, or even surpass the original. The remake stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Elizabeth Blackmore, Lou Taylor Pucci and Jessica Lucas. "Evil Dead" opens on April 5, 2013.

Evil Dead Remake

We have the first movie clip for the "Evil Dead" remake and it's certainly a tame preview compared to the gore-fest that the early reviews have announced. So far the reactions have been positive and those hoping for the violence to go way over the top, well, you're in for a treat. The other preview is a WonderCon Announcement trailer. It doesn't contain any new footage, but the editing and the sound effects are really great. The remake is directed by Fede Alvarez and stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Elizabeth Blackmore, Lou Taylor Pucci and Jessica Lucas. "Evil Dead" opens on April 5, 2013.

Evil Dead Remake

I honestly had no hope that Fede Alvarez could pull off a solid remake of Sam Raimi's classic "Evil Dead". I was wrong. Early reviews have been overly enthusiastic and credit Alvarez with the achievements of both paying respect to Raimi's original and giving fans a fresh new approach to the franchise. If the box-office ends up confirming the hype, Alvarez could be on his way to directing a sequel.

Bruce Campbell Evil Dead
With early reviews being so positive and everyone waiting for a sequel to be announced for the remake, nobody was expecting Sam Raimi to come out and say that he will be working on "Evil Dead 4" this summer. As I read the news, I was almost sure that Alvarez and his remake would be sidelined to make room for Raimi's sequel. But, it seems that is not the case, either.

Evil Dead Bruce Campbell
In a recent interview, Fede Alvarez confirmed that they are working on "Evil Dead 2", but that they are in a very early stage with it and it's going to be entirely original, unrelated to the original films. In the end, he said, it depends on where the story goes and if they can agree on it. I personally think Alvarez has a good shot of directing the sequel in the end. He also went on to confirm that Raimi is serious about doing "Evil Dead 4" and he will be bringing Bruce Campbell back as Ash. Here are some fragments from the interview:
"I think it’s going to depend on where we take it. Right now, we just got to write it. For me, it’s if we manage to agree, but we’re just starting to build a story and figure out what kind of movie it’s going to be, and it depends on what it is. It depends on the story we find, because personally, I think it has to shock everybody. It has to go to a different place just like Army of Darkness did with Evil Dead 2. It has to do that switch that every Evil Dead movie did with the previous one.

Well, right now you have to create something different and completely new. And it’s exciting for me because in a long time, this, the new one—the next one—is going to be a completely new, fresh, 100% original, you bet. Because this one has so many ties to the first one that at the end of the day, being what it is, it’s like a sound of the original movie. But this next one, it’s not a remake of Evil Dead 2. It’s something completely new and different. I’m so excited to see where that’s going to go.

He wants to do it [Sam Raimi]. I can tell you that because we’ve talked about it. He wants to try and find the best movie to do it. He has a story, he pitched it to me about what he wants to do with Bruce and Ash on Evil Dead 4. It’s definitely something he wants to do. At the end of the day, bringing this saga back to life is the best way to do it. And look, they don’t call him “The Master” just because."

Evil Dead Bruce Campbell
  • Sam Raimi announced over the weekend that he plans to work on the script for "Evil Dead 4". This is great news for fans of the horror franchise, but it's unclear at the moment what will happen with the "Evil Dead" remake directed by Fede Alvarez which comes out this year. Raimi announced his intentions at a press conference by saying "I would love to make Evil Dead 4. My brother and I plan to work on the script this summer."

  • Steven Spielberg is planning on making a mini-series about French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte which is based on a script written by Stanley Kubrik in 1961. Spielberg spoke about it in an interview: "I’ve been developing Stanley Kubrick’s screenplay — for a miniseries not for a motion picture — about the life of Napoleon. Kubrick wrote the script in 1961, a long time ago." Steven Spielberg was previously involved in completing Kubrik's work with the 2001 sci-fi "Artificial Intelligence". "Napoleon" was heavily researched by Stanley Kubrik, so Spielberg will have a lot of the legendary director's blueprints to start from.

  • Wally Pfister, Christopher Nolan's cinematographer, is making his directorial debut with the complex sci-fi "Transcendence". The film, which is produced by Nolan, will star Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany. Rumors seem to indicate that the female lead contenders include Rooney Mara, Rebecca Hall and Emily Blunt. The script has been written by newcomer Jack Paglen, but the plot is kept under wraps. Filming will begin in April in Los Angeles and is scheduled to open on April 25, 2014.

  • Omar Sy, the star of the french hit "The Intouchables", has signed on to star in "X-Men: Days of Future Past". The sequel has already collected quite a gathering of actors, reuniting both the casts of "X-Men: First Class" and the original "X-Men" trilogy: Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult. Another actor recently added to the cast is Peter Dinklage ("Game of Thrones"). Directed by Bryan Singer, "X-Men: Days of Future Past" opens on July 18, 2014.

  • Daniel Radcliffe is in talks to star in 20th Century Fox's new version of "Frankenstein". The film will be directed by Paul McGuigan ("Lucky Number Slevin") from a script by Max Landis ("Chronicle") and is said to be a "a tale of friendship and redemption". Radcliffe will play the role of Igor, the hunchback assistant of Dr. Frankenstein. It will be quite a challenge for the young actor, but since modern films tend to reinvent classic stories, there's a good chance that the Igor they'll envision might not quite be the Igor we used to know.
