"Justice League" is the fifth installment in the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) and brings together Batman (
Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (
Gal Gadot), Flash (
Ezra Miller), Cyborg (
Ray Fisher) and Aquaman (
Jason Momoa), who join forces following Superman's death to protect our world from a great threat.
Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, Connie NIelsen and
J.K. Simmons co-star.
The film's production proved to be quite complicated. After initially announced as the first of a two-part project (titled
"Justice League Part One"), it was eventually reverted to a one-movie affair after it was decided that Batman should get his own standalone movie next. Director
Zack Snyder left the project before he could get the reshoots done following the death of his daughter, and
Joss Whedon (
"The Avengers") was brought on board to oversee the reshoots after initially being hired only to write additional scenes. Recently there have been rumors that
Ben Affleck is looking to "segue" out of the Batman role and that director
Matt Reeves is already looking to replace Affleck for the standalone installment. Another rumor mentions that
Jake Gyllenhaal is already in talks for the part.
"Justice League" opened in theaters on November 17th, 2017 and received mixed to negative reviews. Although lighter in tone, the film was still criticized for failing to find the right tonal balance and continuing the tradition of murky visuals and uninvolving action sequences.
Although it was expected to finish its opening weekend at around $110 million at the box-office, recent numbers suggest that it might actually end up with a little over $90 million after an estimated $38.8 million grossed on Friday (and $13 million from Thursday previews). The production budget is reportedly around $300 million, making this one of the most expensive movies ever made.
