The nominations for the 39th Razzie Awards have been announced. This year's crop of stinkers include John Travolta's "Gotti", the comedy "Holmes & Watson" starring Will Ferrell, and the gritty (creepy) puppet show "Happytime Murders", which lead with six nods apiece. Other contenders include the horror film "Winchester" starring Helen Mirren and the box-office bomb "Robin Hood". Meanwhile, "Fifty Shades Freed" got away with a single nomination this year, for Worst Director (James Foley).

gotti-2018-trailer-clips-featurette-images-posters

"Gotti" is a biopic based on the story of New York crime boss John Gotti and his son. The film is directed by Kevin Connolly ("Dear Eleanor") from a script by Leo Rossi and Lem Dobbs ("Dark City"), and it stars John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Stacy Keach, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Chris Mulkey and Spencer Rocco Lofranco.

The film had some behind-the-scenes trouble before its release on June 15, 2018. It was originally set to be released on December 15, 2017, but two weeks prior to the release date, Lionsgate sold the film back to its producers and studio, delaying the release. "Gotti" was universally panned by critics, with Travolta receiving some faint praise for his performance.

in-theaters-incredibles-2-tag-superfly-gotti

Disney and Pixar released their highly anticipated animated sequel "Incredibles 2" today, and according to critics and moviegoers alike, it's ... incredible ! Grown ups, however, might be more interested in the R-rated comedy "Tag" starring Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms, Jon Hamm and Jake Johnson, or the crime drama "Superfly", a remake of the 1972 blaxploitation film of the same name. In limited release, it might be worth checking out the biopic "Gotti" starring John Travolta.

The impressive cast for Barry Levinson's Gotti biopic, called "Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father" now welcomes Ben Foster ("The Mechanic", "Pandorum", "3:10 To Yuma"). He will be playing John Gotti Jr., the son of the infamous head of the Gambino crime family. John Travolta will star as John Gotti Sr. and his wife, Victoria, will be played by Travolta's real-life spouse, Kelly Preston. Also, Al Pacino will star as Gambino family underboss Aniello Dellacroce. Lindsay Lohan was rumored to appear as Gotti Jr's wife, but so far nothing has been confirmed. Also, Joe Pesci is currently suing the producers because he has gained weight for a role that was eventualy cut out of the movie, so, I guess he won't be in it, either. Filming is scheduled to begin next year in January.

Al Pacino has had plenty of experience when it comes to gangster movies. "The Godfather" trilogy, "Scarface", "Donny Brasco", to name but a few, have given birth to iconic characters, all bearing the unimstakable signature of one of the greatest actors the world has ever seen. Now, Al Pacino returns to the crime genre that he helped define in his own way. He has been cast in Barry Levinson's "Gotti: Three Generations", and will play Gambino family underboss Neil Dellacroce. Already cast are John Travolta as John Gotti, Kelly Preston as Gotti's wife (Travolta's wife in real life), and Joe Pesci as a Gotti lieutenant. Also cast is Lindsay Lohan. Let's hope she can stay sober long enough to avoid being replaced at the last minute. The movie is based on John Gotti Jr's story who after spending time in prison decided to withdraw from the family business. Filming will begin sometime this fall and the producers are looking for a 2013 release date.
