"Greenland 2: Migration" is a post-apocalyptic survival thriller directed by Ric Roman Waugh ("Snitch", "Shot Caller") and written by Chris Sparling and Mitchell LaFortune. The film is a sequel to the 2020 disaster thriller "Greenland" and it stars Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, Roman Griffin Davis (replacing Roger Dale Floyd), Amber Rose Revah, Gordon Alexander, Peter Polycarpou, William Abadie, and Tommie Earl Jenkins. It was released in theaters on January 9, 2026.

Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin Set for Sequel GREENLAND: MIGRATION

Gerard Butler ("Law Abiding Citizen", "Has Fallen" Trilogy) and Morena Baccarin ("Deadpool"") are set to reunite with director Ric Roman Waugh ("Angel Has Fallen", "Shot Caller") for "Greenland: Migration", the sequel to the 2020 disaster thriller "Greenland".

In a continuation of the story, the Garrity family, who survive a near-extinction level event when an interstellar comet hits the earth, must leave the safety of the Greenland bunker and embark on a perilous journey across the decimated frozen wasteland of Europe to find a new home. Butler reprises his role as structural engineer John Garrity alongside Baccarin as Allison Garrity.

Principal photography is scheduled for 2022.

The first feature, Greenland, defied global box office expectations when it debuted last summer to impressively robust box office numbers amidst worldwide lockdowns and limited theatre capacity. The film launched at the #1 spot theatrically in over 26 countries including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Russia.

Following the U.S. and international theatrical roll-out by STX, the film debuted digitally on SVOD followed by an exclusive run in the U.S. on HBO Max. The critically lauded film, praised for bringing an engaging human story backdrop to the disaster film format, topped the rental features VOD list on both Apple and Google Play at a premium rental price.

"Greenland spoke to our humanity in the middle of a global catastrophic event, highlighting what people are capable of doing to one another, both good and bad, when it’s life or death. The irony is we made the first film pre Covid and watched many situations come to reality. I’m really looking forward to the next chapter of The Garritys post the first extinction event."

"Greenland" is a disaster thriller directed by Ric Roman Waugh ("Snitch", "Angel Has Fallen").

The film follows a family as they struggle to survive cataclysmic disasters set off by a planet-killing comet on a collision course with Earth. The cast features Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, Roger Dale Floyd, Scott Glenn, David Denman and Hope Davis.

"Greenland" was initially set to be released in theaters, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was released theatrically overseas, while in the U.S. it has been released through VOD on October 13, 2020. The film will air on HBO Max in 2021 after a $20-$30 million deal was struck.

Chris Evans To Star In Neill Blomkamp's Disaster Thriller GREENLAND

Marvel veteran Chris Evans and Oscar nominated director Neill Blomkamp ("District 9") are teaming up for the disaster movie "Greenland". The news comes out of Cannes and details are sketchy at this point, but the film's plot will follow a family's fight for survival in the face of a cataclysmic natural disaster. Filming is reportedly set to start towards the end of this year.

"Greenland" is produced by Thunder Road Picture's Basil Iwanyk ("Sicario", "John Wick") and co-financed by Anton, Riverstone Pictures and Ingenious Media. International distribution will be handled by STX International, and domestic distribution is still being shopped at the Cannes Film Festival.

Sébastien Raybaud, CEO of Anton had the following to say about the project:

“When we read Greenland, we knew it was exactly the sort of film we wanted to make as we build the Anton brand – smart, character-driven genre with action and heart. We are very excited to work alongside our friends at STX with such exceptional talent as Neill Blomkamp, Chris Evans, and Basil Iwanyk"

Another statement comes from David Kosse, President of STX International:

"Greenland is the kind of highly commercial genre fare that sees Neill Blomkamp doing what he does best: delivering a smart, fresh, high concept narrative in a world we can easily recognize. We were immediately attracted to this talent-driven, wide release, theatrical title that is so distinctive of the STX brand. Working alongside Neill, Thunder Road, Riverstone and Anton to bring this to the marketplace is a tremendous opportunity.".

Blomkamp has been searching for his next project for some time after his ambitious "Alien" sequel was scrapped by Fox. That film would have been a direct follow-up to James Cameron's "Aliens", essentially ignoring the other two sequels, which somehow conflicted with Ridley Scott's vision for the franchise, resulting in Scott asking Fox to dismiss Blomkamp's project.

Evans recently finished work on the historical thriller "The Red Sea Diving Resort" and is currently starring in the Broadway play "Lobby Hero". He can also be seen in "Avengers 4", which will be released in theaters on May 3, 2019.
