"Nightflyers" is a horror sci-fi series created by
Jeff Buhler (
"The Midnight Meat Train",
"Pet Sematary") based on the novella of the same name and a series of short stories by
George R.R. Martin, as well as the 1987 feature film adaptation. The author was not involved directly in a creative capacity due to his exclusive contract with HBO, but did serve as an executive producer on the project.
The series is set in 2093 and it follows eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath who embark on an expedition to the edge of our solar system aboard The Nightflyer, a ship with a small tightknit crew and a reclusive captain, in the hope of making contact with alien life. Their journey takes a violent turn as terrifying events begin to take place and the crew start to question each other. The cast features
Jodie Turner-Smith, Gretchen Mol, Eoin Macken, David Ajala, Angus Sampson, Sam Strike, Maya Eshet, Brian F. O'Byrne, Gwynne McElveen and
Phillip Rhys.
"Nightflyers" is set to premiere on December 2, 2018 on Syfy at 10p. New episodes will air across five consecutive nights this week, and again next week beginning on Sunday. All 10 episodes will be available immediately on December 2nd on VOD and online at Syfy's website.
