Everyone was expecting "Solo: A Star Wars Story" to break records at the Memorial Day holiday weekend box-office, but while the film managed to open in first place and made decent money, it failed to live up to the hype. Its overseas box-office was even worse.

Weekend Box-Office: DEADPOOL 2 Ends AVENGERS' Reign

"Avengers: Inifinity War" was dethroned after a 3-week reign at the top of the box-office charts by another comic book adaptation sequel, the R-rated "Deadpool 2".  The Marvel character from another studio made a ton of money over the weekend, but couldn't quite break all the records. Meanwhile, the comedies "Book Club" and "Show Dogs" performed pretty much as expected on this crowded weekend.

Weekend Box-Office: INIFINITY WAR Still Leads; LIFE OF THE PARTY and BREAKING IN Score Solid Debuts

"Avengers: Infinity War" continues to make money. No surprises there. While Disney and Marvel's behemoth continues its impressive run at the box-office, two new releases, "Life of the Party" and "Breaking In" found their audience over the Mother's Day weekend.

In Theaters: LIFE OF THE PARTY, BREAKING IN, REVENGE and BEAST

Women are leading the assault this Mother's Day weekend in theaters. We have the comedy "Life of the Party" starring Melissa McCarthy, the thriller "Breaking In" starring Gabrielle Union, and in limited release we find the violent French thriller "Revenge" starring Matilda Lutz ("Rings"). Another film out now in select theaters is the drama "Beast", formerly titled "Jersey Affair" starring Jessie Buckley and Johnny Flynn.

The comedy "Life of the Party" stars Melissa McCarthy as a middle-aged mother whose husband suddenly dumps her and decides to go back to college, ending up in her daughter's class. The film is directed by McCarthy's real-life husband, Ben Falcone, and it also stars Molly Gordon, Gillian Jacobs, Maya Rudolph, Julie Bowen, Matt Walsh, Debby Ryan, Adria Arjona, Jessie Ennis, Stephen Root and Jacki Weaver.

"Life of the Party" opens in theaters on May 11, 2018 and is expected to gross between $18 and $21 million from 3,600 theaters.
