Weekend Box-Office: SOLO Breaks Down in Second Weekend

Disney and Lucasfilm's "Solo: A Star Wars Story" suffered a steep decline in its second weekend at the box-office, but still managed to hold in first place. Meanwhile, "Adrift" opened a bit below expectations, while the Blumhouse sci-fi horror "Upgrade" scored a decent debut. The Johnny Knoxville comedy "Action Point" flopped.

Weekend Box-Office: DEADPOOL 2 Ends AVENGERS' Reign

"Avengers: Inifinity War" was dethroned after a 3-week reign at the top of the box-office charts by another comic book adaptation sequel, the R-rated "Deadpool 2".  The Marvel character from another studio made a ton of money over the weekend, but couldn't quite break all the records. Meanwhile, the comedies "Book Club" and "Show Dogs" performed pretty much as expected on this crowded weekend.

In Theaters: DEADPOOL 2, BOOK CLUB, SHOW DOGS and FIRST REFORMED

This week in theaters, "Avengers: Infinity War" faces some stiff competition from "Deadpool 2". Other new wide releases are the comedies "Book Club" and "Show Dogs". In limited release you have to go see Paul Schrader's "First Reformed" starring Ethan Hawke and Amanda Seyfried.

DEADPOOL 2 Trailers, Clips, Featurettes, Images and Posters

Ryan Reynolds returns as the "merc with the mouth" in "Deadpool 2". Directed by David Leitch ("John Wick"), the sequel finds Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, in the process of putting together a team of mutants called X-Force in order to protect a young mutant (Julian Dennison) who is being hunted by time travelling cybernetic mutant soldier Cable (Josh Brolin).

The cast also includes Zazie Beetz, Brianna Hildebrand, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Stefan Kapičić, Terry Crews, Lewis tan, Bill Skarsgard, Rob Delaney, Shioli Kutsuna and Jack Kesy.

"Deadpool 2" opened in theaters on May 18, 2018 and received mostly positive reviews from critics. It is expected to gross over $130 million in its opening weekend after an impressive $18.6 million earned from Thursday night previews, a record for an R-rated film.

DEADPOOL 2 Teaser Finds Ryan Reynolds Trying To Be a Hero

20th Century Fox found the perfect way to keep people amped about the upcoming "Deadpool 2", without having any actual footage from the movie to show. A teaser built as a sketch features Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool trying to be a hero when he hears the cries of an innocent man in danger, but things don't turn out the way he planned. Stan Lee also makes a hilarious cameo. It's completely in tune with the character's darkly funny shenanigans and the perfect hype-builder until we get an actual trailer.

"Deadpool 2" will be directed by David Leitch ("John Wick") and casting is underway for the character Cable, with David Harbour ("The Equalizer") rumored to be a frontrunner for the role. The sequel will be released in theaters on March 2nd, 2018.
