Jordan Peele's sci-fi horror thriller opened in the top spot this weekend, but fell short of projections. Regardless, the film helped Universal cross the $1 billion milestone in North America, becoming only the second studio to do so in 2022, after Paramount.

Weekend Box-Office: THOR LOVE AND THUNDER Clings to Top Spot Despite Massive -68% Drop

"Thor: Love and Thunder" managed to top the charts in its sophomore weekend, but it did take a steep tumble, which seems to happen more and more for Marvel movies these days. The mystery drama "Where the Crawdads Sing" opened in theaters and managed to beat expectations, but the animated film "Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank" failed to find an audience.

The animated sequel "Minions: The Rise of Gru" scored a record-breaking debut for this year's July 4th holiday weekend, while "Top Gun: Maverick", "Elvis", "Jurassic World Dominion" and "The Black Phone" all did impressive business at the domestic box-office. Meanwhile, the period romantic drama "Mr. Malcolm's List" collapsed in its debut.
