THe historical epic "The Woman King" came in higher than expected and dominated another quiet weekend at the box-office with no other major releases. The micro-budget horror film "Pearl", a surprise prequel to Ti West's "X", and the mystery comedy "See How They Run" made the Top 5 but with far less impressive debuts.

Weekend Box Office Spider Man No Way Home 2022 National Cinema Day

The 2022 Labor Day weekend box-office received a serious boost from National Cinema Day, an event that brought 8.1 million moviegoers to theaters, a record number for 2022, with the help of heavily discounted $3 tickets. More than 3,000 theaters across the country, including major chains, participated in the event and charged just $3 for admission to any movie in any format, including IMAX, 3D, D-Box, and ScreenX. The one-day event brought in $24.3 million.

However, the weekend was still lacking in terms of new releases, and earnings were pretty low throughout. So much so, that the re-release of Sony's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" topped the charts this weekend.

Weekend Box Office The Invitation

Sony Pictures / Screen Gems' horror film "The Invitation" topped the charts this weekend, but it ended up being the lowest first-place finish since May 2021, when the pandemic was in full force. With $51.3 million overall, this weekend is the lowest since the January 28 weekend ($34.8 million). The fantasy film "Three Thousand of Years Longing" starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton also opened in theaters this week, but failed to make an impression.

With no major new wide releases, the Brad Pitt starrer "Bullet Train" dominated the box-office in its second weekend. Semi-wide new releases "Fall" and "Mack & Rita" failed to find an audience. Also, this ended up being the lowest grossing weekend to date this summer.

Sony's new R-rated action comedy "Bullet Train" scored a decent debut, defying predictions that expected it to disappoint. Universal's family comedy "Easter Sunday" also opened this weekend, but couldn't find much of an audience.

"Bullet Train" is an action comedy directed by David Leitch ("John Wick", "Deadpool 2", "Atomic Blonde") from a script by Zak Olkewicz, based on the Japanese novel "Maria Bettle" (published in english as "Bullet Train") by Kotaro Isaka. The all-star ensemble cast features Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon, Benito A MartĂ­nez Ocasio, and Sandra Bullock. The film opened in theaters on August 5, 2022.

Sandra Bullock Joins Brad Pitt in Sony's Action Movie BULLET TRAIN
Oscar winnner Sandra Bullock is the newest addition to the cast of Sony Pictures' upcoming action thriller "Bullet Train". Directed by David Leitch ("John Wick", "Deadpool 2"), the film is based on the Japanese novel "Maria Bettle" by Kotaro Isaka. The screenplay is penned by Zak Olkewicz.

The plot centers on a group of hitmen and assassins with conflicting motives on a train in Tokyo, and the tone has been described as "Speed" meets Liam Neeson's plane thriller "Non-Stop".

The impressive ensemble cast already includes Brad Pitt, Joey King, Lady Gaga, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Zazie Beetz, Logan Lerman, Bad Bunny, Andrew Koji, Brian Tyree Henry, Masi Oka, Michael Shannon, Hiroyuki Sanada and Karen Fukuhara

Bullock can next be seen in an untitled Netflix drama directed by Nora Fingscheidt ("System Crasher").

Joey King in Talks to Join Brad Pitt in Action Thriller BULLET TRAIN
"The Kissing Booth" star Joey King is in talks to join the cast of the action thriller "Bullet Train". The film will be directed by David Leitch ("John Wick", "Atomic Blonde"), who is also supervising the script penned by Zak Olkewicz ("Fear Street").

The film is based on the Japanese novel "Maria Beetle" by Kotaro Isaka and it centers on a group of hitmen and assassins with conflicting motives on a train in Tokyo. Pitt will play an American hitman named Ladybug, while King will star an unassuming teenage assassin named Prince.

Filming is expected to begin this fall. Leitch and Kelly McCormick will produce through 87North, along with Antoine Fuqua. Kat Samick is executive producing alongside Ryosuke Saegusa and Yuma Terada of CTB Inc.

King recently starred in Netflix's "The Kissing Booth 2" and a third film in the series has already been shot. She will also star in and executive produce the limited series "A Spark of Light" based on the best-selling book by Jodi Piccoult, and is also attached to star in and produce "The In Between" for Paramount Players.

Brad Pitt to Star in Assassin Action Thriller BULLET TRAIN From David Leitch
Academy Award winner Brad Pitt has signed on to lead Sony's action thriller "Bullet Train". The film, which is based on the popular Japanese book "Maria Beetle" by best-selling author Kotaro Isaka will be directed by David Leitch ("Atomic Blonde", "Hobbs & Shaw").

The book centers on a group of hitmen and assassins with conflicting motives on a fast moving bullet train from Tokyo to Morioka. Pitt will play an American hitman named Ladybug. The script is being written by Zak Olkewicz ("Fear Street") and Leitch is overseeing revisions. The film's tone has been described as "Speed" meets "Non-Stop".

The studio hopes to begin filming this fall. The novel will be published in English next year.

The project was originally developed by Antoine Fuqua and Kat Samick. They will also serve as producers alongside Leitch and Kelly McCormick. Ryosuke Saegusa and Yuma Terada will act as executive producers.

Pitt was also supposed to star in Damien Chazelle's "Babylon" alongside Emma Stone, but production was pushed back to 2021.
