Macbeth 1948 New On Bluray

Product Description: Something wicked this way comes in Orson Welles’s cinematic retelling of William Shakespeare’s immortal classic. The larger-than-life Welles (Citizen Kane, The Lady from Shanghai, Othello, Touch of Evil) adapts, produces, directs and stars as the titular Scottish lord who is tragically undone by his own vaulting ambition. Welles’s noir-tinged interpretation bubbles over with supernatural prophecy and murderous intrigue, effectively mixing the use of shadow and oblique camera angles (courtesy of cinematographer John L. Russell, Psycho) to achieve an ominous sense of a land in peril. Co-starring Dan O’Herlihy (Robinson Crusoe), Roddy McDowall (Planet of the Apes), Alan Napier (TV’s Batman) and Jeanette Nolan (The Big Heat) in her stunning film debut as Lady Macbeth, this iconic Mercury Production of The Scottish Play is an altogether stark and singular vision. This 2-disc Special Edition includes both the original 1948 119-minute cut, replete with overture/exit music and affected Highland burrs, and the 1950 pared-down 85-minute re-release which excised most of the accented dialogue.

The Trial 1962 New On Bluray 4k Criterion

Product Description: A feverishly inspired take on Franz Kafka’s novel, Orson Welles’s The Trial casts Anthony Perkins as the bewildered office drone Josef K., whose arrest for an unspecified crime plunges him into a menacing bureaucratic labyrinth of guilt, corruption, and paranoia. Exiled from Hollywood and creatively unchained, Welles poured his ire at the studio system, the blacklist, and all forms of totalitarian oppression into this cinematic statement—a bold, personal film that he himself considered one of his greatest. Dizzying camera angles, expressionistic lighting, increasingly surreal locations—Welles unleashed the full force of his visual brilliance to convey the nightmarish disorientation of a world gone mad.

DVD & Blu-ray: BLACK MAGIC (1949) Starring Orson Welles and Nancy Guild

Product Description: After watching his gypsy parents executed by hanging for the alleged crime of sorcery, a young Joseph Balsamo is tortured mercilessly for the insolence of objecting to his parents' conviction. After a narrow escape from his captors, he vows revenge on the nobleman who sentenced his parents to death.

Having honed his skills as a charmer through his teen years and into adulthood, Joseph (Orson Welles) now dons the name Cagliostro and becomes a famous sorcerer throughout Europe earning wealth, fame and privilege. His misadventures culminate in a bit of palace intrigue with a plot against Queen Marie Antoinette (Nancy Guild)—whose exact double is under Cagliostro's spell and is helpless to be his instrument in usurping the throne of France.

Despite having helmed such cinematic triumphs as Citizen Kane and The Magnificent Ambersons, the legendary Orson Welles often had trouble in acquiring directorial assignments throughout his career. Many of Welles' film projects were independent ones—financed by acting he did in other directors' pictures. The 1949 production of Black Magic is just such an assignment as Welles used the proceeds to make his version of Shakespeare's Othello (1951).

An adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas novel Joseph Balsamo which tells the story of the 18th century sorcerer Cagliostro, Magic is directed by Gregory Ratoff and features a bravura performance of villainy from Welles, with excellent support from Guild, Stephen Bekassy and Akim Tamiroff (who would later appear with Welles in the director's classic Touch of Evil).

Frank Latimore, Valentina Cortese and Margot Grahame are also featured, with future Perry Mason star Raymond Burr appearing at the film's beginning as Alexandre Dumas' son with Berry Kroeger as the senior Dumas. NEWLY RESTORED.

Product Description: The most dazzling feature debut in cinema history—Orson Welles’s epic tale of a publishing tycoon’s rise and fall In the most dazzling debut feature in cinema history, twenty-five-year-old writer-producer-director-star Orson Welles synthesized the possibilities of sound-era filmmaking into what could be called the first truly modern movie.

the-other-side-of-the-wind-trailer-featurette-images-and-poster

"The Other Side of the Wind" is an experimental drama directed, co-written, co-produced and co-edited by Orson Welles. The film was shot intermittently between 1970 and 1976 and was intended to be Welles' comeback after two decades spent mostly in Europe. The film was never completed due to legal and financial complications. Following Welles' death in 1985, there were several attempts to finish the project, and the rights were eventually acquired by Royal Road in 2014. Overseen by actor and filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich, and produced by Frank Marshall, the film finally premiered at the 75th Venice International Film Festival and was released on November 2, 2018 via Netflix.

A satire of Hollywood, the film stars John Huston as a legendary film director who is struggling to forge his last great comeback as a major filmmaker. The cast also includes Bogdanovich, Oja Kodar, Susan Strasberg and Norman Foster.

tomorrow-is-forever-1946-new-on-blu-ray

Product Description: Soon after the end of World War I, Elizabeth MacDonald receives a telegram that her husband John has been killed in action just before peace was declared. She later succumbs to a fainting spell, not as a reaction to her husband's death, but because she's expecting a child. Still heartbroken and longing to preserve John's memory, she brings a boy into the world and names him "John Andrew" after his father, "Drew" for short.

Twenty years later and on the eve of World War II, the remarried Elizabeth is about to get a shock-- John is not dead! With a shattered body and a determination to forget the past, John now goes by the name "Erik Kessler," and unintentionally re-enters her life. But with the onslaught of Nazi aggression in Europe, the once happy couple must now confront new challenges together as Drew makes plans to fight with the RAF against Germany.

With a screenplay by Lenore Coffee (Four Daughters), Tomorrow is Forever provided an incredible acting showcase for "Renaissance man" Orson Welles as the enigmatic Kessler and Claudette Colbert as Elizabeth, a woman determined not to let another war tear her family apart. The drama also boasts fine support from George Brent, Lucille Watson, Richard Long (in his film debut), and a seven-year-old Natalie Wood (Miracle on 34th St).

Directed by Irving Pichel (The Most Dangerous Game), Tomorrow is Forever remains beloved by classic film fans for its exquisite music score by Max Steiner (Casablanca), and for its masterful blend of romance, suspense and sentiment in its depiction of a family whose lives are tested by the tragedies of war.
