John C. McGinley (
"Platoon",
"Wall Street",
"Point Break") and
Judy Reyes (
"High Potential",
"Devious Maids") are set to reprise their original roles in the upcoming revival of the ABC comedy series
"Scrubs". The project has received a series order in July.
Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and
Sarah Chalke are also returning to their original roles, and will executive produce.
The new
"Scrubs" will follow JD (Braff) and Turk (Faison), who scrub in together for the first time in a long time. Medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart, and some surprises along the way. Both Reyes and McGinley have joined the cast in special recurring guest star roles
Bill Lawrence, creator of the original series, executive produces the new show alongside
"Scrubs" alums
Tim Hobert and
Aseem Batra, who will also share showrunner duties.
Jeff Ingold and
Liza Katzer will executive produce the reboot on behalf of Lawrence's production company, Doozer. 20th Television is the studio. Lawrence remains under his overall deal at Warner Bros. Television.
This marks the fifth collaboration between McGinley and
"Scrubs" creator
Bill Lawrence. He also starred in Lawrence and
Greg Malins' TBS comedy
"Ground Floor" and lent his voice to an episode of the animated series
"Clone High", which was created by Lawrence,
Phil Lord, and
Chris Miller. McGinley will also appear in Lawrence and
Matt Tarses' upcoming HBO comedy series starring
Steve Carell.
Special arrangements were made to accommodate Reyes' busy schedule, as she is currently a series regular on
Drew Goddard's ABC series,
"High Potential". She recently wrapped production on the indie film
"Long Haired Businessmen" directed by
Scott Gairdner.
"Scrubs" ran for seven seasons on NBC and two more on ABC. It was nominated for 17 Emmy Awards, winning two.
