John Goodman is set to star in Sony Pictures' upcoming horror thriller
"Skeletons" directed by
JT Mollner (
"Strange Darling"). The initial screenplay was penned by
Brian Duffield (
"No One Will Save You") based off the short story by
Phillip Fracassi, with revisions by Mollner.
The film is a modern take on creature horror movies told from the perspective of a young boy who slowly begins to discover his beloved parents are hiding a disturbing secret about his mother’s true nature. The cast also includes
Brie Larson, Kyle Gallner, Willa Fitzgerald, Ione Skye and
Daithà Ó Haragáin.
The film is produced by FilmNation Entertainment's production label Infrared,
J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions, and Assemble Media. Sony Pictures picked up worldwide rights during this year's European Film Market with FilmNation, WME, and CAA handling the sale.
Drew Simon, Abrams and
Jon Cohen will produce alongside
Jack Heller. Larson, Fracassi, Assemble's
Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen, Duffield,
Roy Lee and
Steven Schneider will executive produce. Infrared is financing.
Goodman previously worked with Abrams on
"10 Cloverfield Lane", which Abrams produced, and co-starred opposite Larson in
"The Gambler" and
"Kong: Skull Island". He can next be seen in
Alejandro G. Iñárritu's "Digger" starring
Tom Cruise.
