"Mortal Engines" is a post-apocalyptic adventure film directed by
Christian Rivers, who won an Oscar for his visual effects work on
"King Kong" and is making his directorial debut, from a script by
Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and
Peter Jackson, based on the
novel of the same name written by
Philip Reeve.
The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where cities have been motorised, travel on wheels and consume each other to survive. A mysterious young woman, Hester Shaw (
Hera Hilmar) joins forces with outcasts Tom Natsworthy (
Robert Sheehan) and Anna Fang (
Jihae) to stop London, which has become a giant predator city, from devouring everything in its path.
Hugo Weaving, Leila George, Ronan Raftery and
Stephen Lang co-star.
"Mortal Engines" opened in theaters on December 6, 2018 in Australia and New Zealand, and on December 14, 2018 in the U.S. The film has received mixed reviews from critics.
