Cannes 2026 Winners: Cristian Mungiu Wins Second Palme d'Or for FJORD (Complete List)

Cannes 2026 Winners Critian Mungiu Wins Second Palme Dor For Fjord

The winners of the 79th Cannes Film Festival have been announced. Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu won his second Palme d'Or for his drama "Fjord", which stars Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve. Mungiu previously won for his 2007 film "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days", and is now one of only 10 directors to have received two Palmes, following Alf Sjöberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Bille August, Emir Kusturica, Shōhei Imamura, the Dardenne brothers, Michael Haneke, Ken Loach and Ruben Östlund.

It's also a big win of US distributor NEON, marking the seventh consecutive year in which their films take home the coveted trophy. Previous winners include "Parasite" and "Anora", which were also big Oscar winners.

Park Chan-wook presided over this year's jury, which included Demi Moore, Stellan Skarsgård, Chloé Zhao and Paul Laverty.
