Sam Raimi To Direct New Adaptation of Ventriloquist Horror Novel MAGIC

Sam Raimi To Direct New Adaptation Of Ventriloquist Horror Novel Magic

Sam Raimi's new directorial project following his hit survival horror thriller "Send Help" will be a modern adaptation of William Goldman's 1976 psychological horror novel "Magic". The book was previously adapted into the 1978 film of the same name directed by Richard Attenborough and starring Anthony Hopkins and Ann-Margret.

The story follows a ventriloquist who finds himself at the mercy of his vicious puppet while he tries to renew a romance with his high school sweetheart. The script is penned by "Send Help" scribes Mark Swift and Damian Shannon. The film is being developed at Lionsgate.

Raimi was already on board to produce the project alongside Roy Lee ("It", "Weapons"), Chris Hammond, Tim Sullivan, and Zainab Azizi for Raimi Productions. Executive producers include Nathan Kahane, Paul Fishkin, and Andrew Childs for Vertigo. Meredith Wieck and Pavan Kalidindi are overseeing the project for Lionsgate.

Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group said this in a statement: "Sam is the dream director for this project — in fact, his coming aboard represents one of the truly great matches of director and material. The script is fantastic, and we could not be more excited to see Sam's direction and creative vision take it to another level. We are absolutely thrilled he has chosen to direct the film".
